A great place to find used paperbacks. Reasonable prices. Selection quality varies but that's the way all paperback exchanges are. Staff very friendly.

Helpful team running this stall with an excellent awareness of current stocks. Well worth a visit if looking for a specific book or some from a series.

Interesting concept of book piling but couldn’t find what I wanted - many thrillers and modern literature at less than £3 though!

I've been coming to Skoobs for many years and have always raved about what a great place it is for book lovers, run by a very friendly and helpful man.
Yesterday however I visited at 4.45pm to ask if they'd like to buy a couple of paperbacks from me. No one was around initially so I waited by the desk, only for a woman to stomp over and abruptly say 'Yep??' to me. I said I had a few books I wondered if they'd like and she very rudely said 'Ha! Too late!' Then turned her back on me and went in to their staff area. I stood there speechless until she came out again and told me to come back another day as she was closing. I told her it says they close at 5pm and she scoffed again and said 'it takes a long time to close up a book store you know!'
So do you close at 4.30 or do you close at 5? Would she have still been open to take my money if I'd wanted to buy a book or was she turning away sales as well?
I don't normally write poor reviews for businesses and I feel especially sad about doing it for this little shop that I have always enjoyed. However even a day after the incident I am still so shocked by this woman's rudeness that it needs to be brought to the attention of the owner or manager to address. This woman should not be in a job that deals with the general public at all.
Coming from retail myself I understand days can be long and sometimes your initial tone can come out wrong, but this entire interaction was awful and I can only imagine how many other customers she barked at that day.
I will try and return again when someone different is working and preferably who I believe is the owner and has always been lovely and helpful when I've been looking for books. But maybe steer clear on a Saturday afternoon if you want to avoid getting your head bitten off.

Rang the lady earlier to ask if she would like to buy any books and found her rather abrupt and she put the phone down without even saying goodbye. Not good customer service 😕
