The Royal George

We loved our long lunch with an amazing view. Everything was excellent, the menu, food and friendly service. So good to find somewhere with a really good children’s menu too. Will definitely return when next in this beautiful corner of Devon.

What a fantastic place to eat! One of the best restaurant experiences in all of England tucked away in North Devon. We could not have been more pleased to celebrate my husband’s birthday here for Sunday lunch. Right from the start a friendly greeting, beautiful dog-friendly table overlooking the water, excellent service, delicious food (ample portions). Staff could not have been more accommodating. Special thanks to Holly for making our experience so wonderful. The Royal George would be enough to lure us back to this part of the country.

Thank you - we had a lovely night, the food was amazing as always - apologies for my needy guests “have you got a dog blanket” .. “have you got a tooth pick” .. you had both .. they quite rightly thought you were wonderful… and I was proved right, it’s the best sticky toffee pudding that anyone has ever tasted.

Had an anniversary meal here, we live in the village and first visit for a meal. We were not let down, the food was outstanding, the service was professional. I recommend a visit as an excellent experience.
Will return to eat parts of the menu I missed out on. 10/10

Quite the table for a celebration weekend. Down in Devon for our daughters wedding. The weekend also happened to be my birthday weekend. Short notice booking a table for 6 at lunchtime but the gave is the best view in the house, overlooking the estuary. A birthday card on the table and the lovely ladies waiting on tables made such a fuss of us when they found out we were celebrating a wedding too. The food was divine, main and just enough room for dessert. Will Definitely be back when we are in the area.

Had a lovely meal booked last minute. Extremely polite and friendly staff, very attentive and even added a candle for mums birthday. The food was exceptional.

We booked a breakfast at the Royal George Hotel and was not disappointed, situated in stunning location overlooking the estuary, the service was impeccable. The breakfast itself was fantastic, especially those amazing eggs. If you are looking for a thoroughly good breakfast with a stunning view, then I would recommend The Royal George every time.

The best dining experience I've had in a very long time. The food was amazing and staff were brilliant. It really couldn't have been much better. Highly recommended.

A big thank you to all the staff at the Royal George for looking after our daughter's wedding so very well. From the initial planning right through to the actual event everything went smoothly. Communication between Sasha & Alison and our daughter/future son-in-law was excellent with tasting menus offered. On the day the staff couldn't do enough for us. The food was beautiful and not the usual wedding fayre. There was plenty of it too with excellent vegetarian options. We heard nothing but praise from the wedding guests. The staff worked really hard to keep everything spotlessly clean. We would particularly like to thank Nicky and the bar team for looking after everyone so well. Overall the staff at the Royal George were fantastic and we can't thank you enough.

Just went in for a coffee. Was a lovely place, well worth the visit. Views were terrific. Will go back next time and have a breakfast too.

We have visited The Royal George through the summer months and enjoyed outdoor drinks there during and after dog walks. Today was our first visit for food, based on photos posted on their Facebook page which look very appealing.

We love the Royal George! The food is always fantastic, never disappoints.

Though a little pricey, it is worth it for a lovely meal here.

The scallops starter and lamb three ways really stood out, but all dishes are great.

Very good service. Definitely try and book a table upstairs to get the beautiful views of the Appledore estuary!

We ate in the upstairs restaurant and it was a lovely experience. The views over the water are great and the service and atmosphere was really good. There were a good choice of quite simple dishes with great flavour. Priced very reasonably for the quality. Recommended.

Dined at the Royal George for my birthday. Couldn't fault it at all. Fantastic food, attentive staff, good range of cocktails and wines. Above all very reasonably priced for what was high quality food

Been many times & never had nothing less than a great experience every time. Staff super friendly & great quality of food. Oh the setting isn’t too shabby either!

Fantastic dog friendly place to eat. We had 4 meals here during our week long stay in Appledore. Sunday lunch was one of the best I have had in a long time. We ate here again on the Monday and Thursday evening then had breakfast on the last day of our holiday. The staff are amazing, really friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and the food was fantastic on each visit. I can highly recommend The Royal George, perfect in every way

What a gem of a place! Fantastic food and a view to die for from the tables. Chef knows how's to cook seafood to perfection, and the Dandelion tart is just magical, plus add the pernod strawberries, and you have one of the nicest deserts I've had! Are we going back? Oh yes, there's more on the menu to try! I have no idea about the rooms as we were on a day out.

Walked into Appledore from. Northam along the SW coastal path and called in on the off chance of a table for lunch. Lovely warm welcome and service. The chicken and the curry mains were beautiful, tasty and presented wonderfully. The deserts, Lemon tarts were equally beautiful. Well done to the kitchen and front of house staff.

I just had the best meal of my life. It was a piece of art. Beautifully presented and perfectly balanced in flavour for both courses. This chef should be Michelin starred if not already. I had the scallops to start, they were beautifully sweet and perfectly soft and tender. For the main, I had the pan-fried Sea Bass with salmon tortellini, mussels, tagine and lemon oil. It was a truly special day eating fantastic food overlooking the estuary. It is a little hard to find but well worth the effort they also have a fantastic selection of wine to pair with whichever artwork you decide on.
