Briar Bakery

We live an hour away but we always make a point of visiting if we're anywhere near Ashburton. The sourdough and cakes here are simply incredible, the bread is so wholesome and tasty it blows everything else into the weeds, stunning!

The chocolate tart is spectacular. Gorgeous pastry, a subtle hint of orange, rich cocoa depth, delightful hazelnut crunch on top. Probably the best thing I have eaten this academic year.

Best eccles cakes and cinnamon / cardoman buns i have ever had, and i have tried all of the esteemed local bakeries in this area. Also most of the cakes are cheaper than other quality bakeries. Cant comment on the bread as i have only bought cakes ! Friendly service too.

Wow, what an incredible bakery! We literally bought half the shop this morning it all looked so delicious! So glad we did, all tasted amazing especially the focaccia and flapjack! Xx

Cinnamon & cardamom bun was delicious: a great balance of sweet and spicy. Custard tart was delightful with plentiful but not overpowering nutmeg and a perfect set on the custard. Bread from Hylsten and biscuits & pasta from Fresh Flour were also highlights. Can't recommend a visit enough.

Can't wait to get this focaccia home.

Probably the best focaccia I’ve ever had. Still warm out of the oven, perfectly crispy on the bottom, generous amounts of olive oil. Appropriately salty. Truly superb and worth coming for alone. The iced bun was also good!

The only bakery to match the almond thief's seeded sourdough! The best Eccles cakes I've ever had. Can't wait to try the rest.

Beautiful bloomers warrant boasting about. Terrific place, friendly staff and delicious bakes. Paul Hollywood owes this place a visit and I hope he's prepared to shake their hands.
