Just finished a long weekend touring the lake District.Without a doubt The Inn at Whitewell was the best hotel we stayed in. The staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough to help you. The ambiance is rustic with wonderful log fires, even to the point that if you wish they will light a fire in your room before bed.. absolute bliss. We had dinner which was excellent, with a very good wine list, a well stocked bar and excellent selection of local and international beers.Breakfast was also excellent. We were also lucky to have rooms that faced the snow capped hills and river running past, absolutely amazing, certainly got the wow factor. We love the lake district and will use The Inn at Whitewell as our base for future visits..

After wanting to visit The Inn At Whitewell for some time, I decided to book for today (Good Friday) .. So glad we did! Lovely venue, beautiful location, delicious food. We both ate the same (which is rare) we got the soup of the day which was cream of Butternut squash with toasted pine nuts, then we chose the fish pie (with it being Good Friday) with a side of chips and sugar snap peas. The service was perfect, we had a lovely girl who’s first day it was serving! Afterwards we decided to sit outside overlooking the river to finish our drinks! It was very busy, so booking is a must, also there was alot of parking but with it being so busy, we did struggle. All in all, if you’re thinking of visiting, do so! You won’t be disappointed!

Whilst holidaying in the area I saw a recommendation for the fish pie and sticky toffee pudding, I followed the recommendation and can confirm it’s a splendid meal in a super location.

There are times when you stumble across a real gem and the Inn At Whitewell is exactly that. An authentic, dog-friendly Inn with stunning rooms and food to match.
Stepping inside is like being embraced with a warm hug. Open fires, excellent service and fine fare, an absolute must for you and the special dog in your life.

A great place to celebrate a special occasion. We stayed in one of the Carriage Houses which are spacious and luxurious. The Inn is surrounded by lovely countryside and there are several great walks in the locality. We enjoyed the food and that the hotel is welcoming to dogs. Friendly and helpful staff.

Dont change but keep an eye on a few little issues, this is our second visit and its Ideal. tucked away down a delightful valley. old world charm that cant be created. The table service can be patchy like the telephone reception and often you walk in and no one is there to greet you so you are left hanging! (as a service charge is automatic its a tad annoying that the service is a little lacking at times). The Fishpie and Sticky toffee pud are legendary and my staple here. We stayed in the coachhouse which is nicely tucked away from the main building, the room was large, warm (apart from the bathroom burrrr) and well decorated. Beer is good, fires are welcoming and the breakfast nice too. Walks from the hotel are awesome and they produce a great booklet listing these. Will return next year i bet

This visit for Saturday lunch was a delight. Unpretentious fine dining where the cooking and ingredients are exceptional. Reasonably priced too. The drive there is not for the nervous driver though!

The location, the Inn, the views, the history, the food, everything is exceptional 👍 We were lucky last weekend, passing and thought, let's call in. Every room was packed but we had timed it well, a table by the fire had come available. I tried the Roast Grouse, delicious! With a lovely glass of Red. Fantastic choice of wines and ales.
Clitheroe is just up the road. Very pleasant town to take a walk around. Behind the Inn, breathtaking scenery with a walk across the river.

We haven’t been for years but some very good friends invited us to join them for Sunday lunch and we are very happy that they did!
Our friends stay most years and we don’t blame them. The young serving staff were attentive and friendly, the food was, of course, wonderful and the location is outstanding.
Thank you to all at The Inn and especially our friends for treating us to a grand day out!

We called in here for a drink and fell in love with the beautiful setting and scenery. As it was a hot sunny day so we took our drinks onto the outside terrace where the views are stunning, there is the river and hills.
The staff here were friendly, professional and attentive. Whilst we weren't going to be eating on this visit I asked to see a lunchtime menu for future reference and the waitress kindly brought me both the lunch and evening menu.
The decor is rustic, old charm and comfortable. There are prints on the walls along with some taxidermy.
There is a well stocked wine and gift shop which also serves as the reception.
The restroom was clean and had lovely decor. One suggestion might be to have a baby changing area.
I will definitely go back and take friends and family for a meal here.

Lovely dog friendly hotel full of charm. Staff are pleasant and helpful. The food is excellent although a bit limited for my vegetarian friend. Ideally located for walking and the views and scenery around the hotel is just stunning . If you eat in the bar area dogs can stay with you. I left feeling totally relaxed and chilled!

Birthday treat lunch here today for my wife with our family.
It was lovely, very traditional in a good way. The menu reads very old fashioned but has a few modern twists. The kitchen is very very good at what it does. I couldn’t fault a single thing I was served.
It’s quite a large inn and seems at first quite formal but we felt very relaxed. Service is excellent. It felt a little bit like stepping back in time.
The only disappointment I had was that my daughter reckoned the grilled sirloin steak she had was the best steak she’d ever eaten, better than the organic highland beef I buy from a local farm and cook to perfection on my charcoal grill. I’m gutted!
It’s a beautiful location too.
Highly recommend. 6 stars if possible!

The Inn at Whitewell is a Very English country bar with a restaurant. It has few rooms too in the upper floor for overnight stayers. The inn is situated about a 45 mt drive from Lancaster City through an awesome, picturesque winding country side. The food at the inn is comparatively fair priced, Very wholesome and filling. We went for dinner on a Tuesday evening and found the place well patronized. We recommend that reservation is made prior to arrival for dinner which we did too.

Really good authentic country pub/Inn. It's a bit of a drive to get to in the Trough of Bowland but it's worth it. Amazing location with incredible scenery
The pub itself is very good, good log fires to sit by and good drinks selection at the bar
The wine shop is worth a viewing too.
Not stayed over yet but definitely on the list to do and dine as well. A friend of mine always recommends the food.

Nestled deep in the fell, valley and moorland of Bowland, one of rural Lancashire’s most prestigious regions, The Inn at Whitewell – a former Manor House - is more than just an historic location. Rather, we found it to be, in every respect, a glorious ‘experience’ in its own right – a sensory country ‘escape’: off the beaten track - yet firmly on the pulse ... heartened with seasoned cheer, charm and character.

What made our stay? Well, there was luxury, there were views; there was comfort, there were walks … but what really set The Inn at Whitewell apart from the rest was the quality of its service, the breadth of its cuisine and its overwhelming level of hospitality. Stay and you stay as ‘family’; dine and you dine as ‘local or lord’. And - as we discovered - you may arrive as a guest - but you will leave as a friend.

Quite simply, The Inn at Whitewell, offers an incomparable encounter with traditional values; it will embrace you with warmth and personal attention, neither forced nor faked; and you will be rested, rejuvenated, and, yes, refreshed. But, most especially, you will be happy.

The only disappointment?

Having to leave.

Stayed for two nights over my birthday, it rained the whole time which made it a bit tricky to enjoy the views and walks. The stepping stones were passable for one day and the lambs were incredibly cute. The rain aside, the food was good - some of the best breakfasts we’ve had for ages. We ate there both nights and weren’t disappointed (shout out to the fish pie). A little pricey for a pint🍺.

Great food, rooms with lovely character, stunning views and friendly, helpful staff combine to make this a must experience. The rooms do have okay WiFi. However, phone signal is limited or nonexistent. Wine list is impressive, too.
