When moving out of a rented house, Elder and Twells tried to deduct £120.00 from my deposit saying that it needed cleaning, citing dust on the oven and marks on the carpet caused by damp. I can only imagine that they did not expect me to contest it as nobody would ever truly think that this was a good reason for a deduction. Luckily, their dishonest ways did not serve them well and the DPS ruled in my favour and I got the £120.00 back.
If you rent from them, be very careful with pictures when moving out of the property in case they try it on with you too.

They let a house with rising damp, obvious leaks from the roof, chimney and shower, with bodged flooring, loose bricks in a pile in the garden, and mold in both bedrooms to me and my 2 year old child. I tried hard to live there and make it a home for us, but every time I contacted Elder and Twells about issues with the house (like the puddles on the floor created by rain/showering in the room above) my complaints often went ignored. If they were followed up, it would take a minimum of 2 months- over a year to get the issues sorted. Most issues like the majority of the leaks were not. When I moved, a member of Elder and Twells had the gall to include in the inventory a photo of the mold behind the bottom of the radiator(?!), a photo of a messy skirtingboard behind the toilet (a toilet that was propped up on CARDBOARD for the entirety of my stay), and a photo of a solitary coathanger in a cupboard (as a "personal possession") I had left. That house was not fit for habitation and should not have been let to me and my son. Please, even if they are cheap and you are desperate, do not go for this agency because it is really not worth the stress. I am genuinely disgusted with these people and how they have treated me and my child.

Worst estate agency ever! All the staff are unprofessional and refused to fix the easiest of problems. Left without a boiler for around a month during January. Someone with previous access to the property kept entering the house too without authority, requested for Elder Twells to change the locks and they refused! Avoid like the plague!

Josie will not lift a finger for you. Other estate agents will help chase but she said ‘leave it all to solicitors’, wasn’t happy to help at all and was very rude when requested. Wouldn’t recommend at all.

If ya want to have a good experience renting out a property, I can only advise you to stay away from these guys. When it comes to you leaving the property, no matter what take pictures of everything and do not even risk leaving a crumb behind because you WILL get charged. Despite living in my flat for 5 years and probably paying half the mortgage off it I was charged an absolutely ridiculous amount for the most stupid and pathetic reasons. Believe me I want to say a lot worse, if my landlord ever reads this or to the lady who worked there and did me over...what goes around comes around.

Waited half an hour for a viewing. We were stood up without a word. Rang the branch to be told that we were never booked in and that the property was no longer available. Totally unprofessional. My partner has travelled 200 miles in the hopes of us finally living together after months of searching in my area for nothing.
