St Michael's Church Torpenhow

Still an utter gem....inside and out. Just look at that painted ceiling in the nave...pinched I believe.... lock, stock and barrel from one of the City of London's Worshipful Companies centuries ago. Do, I beg you, go and see it ( oh and drop in on the nearby Boltongate rival with it's barrel vaulted alternative ceiling! ).

Don’t use the road from ireby to get to this church if your in a big car it’s a bit narrow to say the least

A very beautiful church. Also a very peaceful, pleasant church yard. I have family here. I love to sit here and reflect.

Superb - one of the very, very best, Far too many highlights to list but check out the stone carvings on the columns inside; the chancel ceiling taken from one of London's livery companies; the squint: and the views north to Bengairn and Screel in Scotland. I reckon this place is really, seriously old and would have been a site of significance in Viking times. Please tell no one about it - we dont want it mobbed!!

Stunning old Norman church, 1120AD, with outstanding features, like a painted Jacobean ceiling installed from a country house, intricate carvings, and modernised lighting.
