James has been servicing three bicycles for us since 2018. His advice is sound and his work exemplary. He is tolerant of my attachment to an ancient and no doubt difficult-to-maintain mountain bike, and remains patient in the face of my foolish questions. He is a pleasant and interesting person to deal with – always willing to stop and shoot the breeze – and, importantly - he never tries to sell me things I don’t want or need.

I have been a customer of James and Cyclogical for over 30 years and bought many bikes for myself and family from him and have had them serviced and repaired .by him.
The service has always been excellent, speedy, professiona, helpful and friendly.
James will always go the extra mile to sort out your problems .Recently at very short notice he repaired my son-in-law’s batek trike wheelchair attachment using his engineering skills to solve a tricky persistent alignment problem which avoided an expensive 200 mile trip to the manufacturer’s workshop and ensured my son-in-law was able to use his wheelchair for an important engagement.
I cannot speak too highly of the service we have enjoyed from James and Cyclogical.

James has looked after all our bikes for over 10 years. My wife's and mine, which we already had when we discovered cyclogical shop, are 15 years old now and still going strong thanks to James. He services these and they always come back working perfectly. Changing gear is so satisfying when it's so fast and almost silent. We've just bought our 5th bike from him, for my eldest daughter. He's always provided good advice on size as our daughters have grown up. Never trying to get an extra sale by recommending something which might be grown out of sooner rather than later.  Nothing is cheap these days, but the customer service and advice is excellent and included in the price. 😀
Thank you James, always a pleasure.

James very kindly visited my home to adjust the electric trike attachment for my wheelchair. A very complex piece of equipment. He has serviced it very well for the five years I have had it. I would highly recommend him.

James recently upgraded the components on my road bike. Everything runs perfectly, like a Swiss watch. It is like having a new bike.

I have had my bikes repaired by James for years. He has always been able to solve a problem even if it means chasing down unusual parts. On a number of occassions he has 'dropped everything' to fix my bike the day before an event.

I'm sorry to say I had a poor experience with James at Cyclogical on my last visit. At best a case of poor communication, at worst I was knowingly overcharged.

Overall I'm disappointed and a little upset by the whole encounter. My mistake was not asking for an itemised pricing before the work was done, but I was shocked to find I had been charged for work I had at no point been told about once I queried the price a day later.

For a detailed explanation please read my account below:

I took my Boardman bike (second hand but in excellent condition) to have a gear alignment as the chain came off when going onto the front little ring. James phoned me up to say I also needed new tyres as he noticed cracking (something I had not seen but am willing to accept was there).

When I collected the bike I was told he'd lubed and serviced the gears, plus put the new tyres on. I paid £119.96 and left, without receiving an itemised bill.

I realised when I got home this seemed like a lot of money, so phoned back the next working day. At this point James told me he'd also changed an inner tube and apparently tightened two loose spokes on the back tyre, without asking or telling me he had done so. The cost of parts was around £52 (£22.50 for each tyre, plus lubricant and a £6 inner tube) leaving the other £70 ish for labour. James told me the gear service was £28, so the rest was for the tyre fitting and spoke tightening.

I find it strange the additional work was not mentioned to me at the time, given I spoke to James on the phone as he was doing the work (to say ok to the new tyres) and picked the bike up an hour or so once he was done.
