The Cheese Cottage

After a walk up and down Jacob's Ladder we came here for a delicious lunch. It was £12 for a sandwich, scone, crops and a hot drink which was exactly what I was looking for. The sandwich had cheddar in it and the scone was fresh and still warm so I was very happy. The staff were also friendly and we had a nice seat by the window which suited our two young kids perfectly. I would recommend this as a reward after a walk around the gorge.

Visit here twice a year or so whilst away, got too say this place is amazing! Staff are always very polite and helpful with a smile, amazing hot food and drinks. (Best hot chocolate i have ever had). I would recommend this place to everybody! 🙂

Independently owned and family operated treasure in Cheddar Gorge, very close to Jacob's Ladder. Lovely fresh bread and great quality cheeses. Stop by, treat yourselves and support locally owned independent family businesses (so important).

We loved The Cheese Cottage! Run by Coral (who bakes the most amazing scones!) and her family, it’s the perfect tea room. We so enjoyed our ‘elevenses’ that we skipped lunch anywhere else and returned for the most scrumptious high tea. All beautifully presented on classic blue and white china, and at prices that are more than fair! Thank you Cheese Cottage, we’ll be back!

Beautiful food and excellent service. Best of all they serve proper tea from a teapot with cups and saucers. A shame I can’t give 6 stars!

Ham cheese salad on granary bread. The staff are very helpful and the cost of food is very reasonable. The display of cakes look lovely too. We truly recommend eating there. We have eaten in and taken away and the quality has been the same

Ended up going here twice while in the area. Food was fresh, tasty, well presented and great value for money. We also had some cakes to takeaway which were amazing!

Delicious food, and really lovely staff. Ended up coming back a few times while we stayed nearby -plenty of other places, sure they are lovely, but this one hit the spot! Coffee is delicous - locally roasted Monkey Rock, even bought a bag to take home :) highly recommend

We've visited the tearooms several times and always have a wonderful experience. The decor is lovely and there is always a great atmosphere. The food is delicious (I love the bacon, brie and cranberry toastie!) and the homemade cakes are amazing. We will definitely be going back!

Fantastic. Cannot recommend highly enough! We visit half a dozen times a year and never been let down or disappointed. Bacon sandwiches a must!

This lovely little tearoom is clearly a 'labour of love' for the family who run it. So much thought and hard work has gone into creating a light, quirky and beautiful space. Add to that the range of quality local food on the menu and in the shop together with the location right in the heart of Cheddar Gorge and you have a cafe that all visitors should make a beeline for. Come away with a bag of fudge for later too - it is absolutely delicious!

Lovely ploughman's lunch.

So many eateries in Cheddar but I finally opted for this delightful little café in its lovely setting behind a fast flowing stream. It was a good choice. It really does have the feel of a cosy cottage inside, with rustic wooden furniture. The lady who served me was so friendly and welcoming. Menu choices limited because of covid restrictions but there was still a tempting selection of sandwiches, toasties, ploughman's lunch and cakes. Ordered a Cheddar cheese, salad and chutney sandwich and a pot of tea. Service was quick and the tea came with a traditional china tea set. The sandwich was generously filled and very satisfying. There's also a little shop selling local cider and ale, fudge, honey, preserves, cheeses and some nice original gifts. Would certainly recommend this café for an enjoyable lunch!

Best toasted cheese sandwich I’ve come across and I didn’t get a look in at the sausage rolls as the kids devoured them in seconds.

Another lovely walk up the Gorge today ending up at The Cheese Cottage Cafe. As always, a wonderful welcome, delicious cake with my latte and time to admire the retro decor. A great addition to Cheddar Gorge.

Come here. Service was great and friendly, tea, coffee, pasties and chocolate brownie were all fantastic! We will make sure to visit here every time we come to Cheddar in the future!
