Love going to castle hill. It’s great for a solo trip if you just want to clear your mind and do a few laps (walking) of the castle with an amazing view of Huddersfield. It’s also a great place to visit with friends if you want to have a fun little catch up. You can bring food up there - it’s super clean and I expect that’s from it being maintained (please don’t destroy it with litter). I’ve also seen many a dog walker up there. They are often off the leash so if you have a fear of dogs or little ones that you’re worried about I would be mindful of this. I’ve also seen people flying their drones up there so I’m guessing there are not restrictions for that.

I would be mindful of the opening hours for the car park. In November - February it closes at 4.30pm so in the depths of winter you might be able to catch a sunset or 2.

It’s a beautiful place and stands proudly in what feels like the centre of Huddersfield. I have some great memories of bonfire nights up there too. You can see everything!

Great find while we were in the area. We parked at the bottom just as you come in off the road, gives you a bit more of a walk. The steps up from there are closed but you can just walk up the drive up to the top car park.
Wonderful views from up the top. Then to our delight we found that the castle was open and for a small fee we could climb up the top. Certainly blew the Cobwebs away!
Overall a great little stop and worth visiting 🙂

A beautiful place. Luna and I have been here for a walk a few times. It’s always a good one. Plenty of parking, however quite a steep drive up and the gates close at 16:30 in winter

Lovely little area for a walk or to relax. Nice plaques with information on castle hill dotted around the walk path. Great place to just get away and sit and reflect

Great views, lovely to walk round the hill top reading the information boards. We went back when tower was open free parking, £2.20 admission great! Take a picnic, kite, ball, kids, dog or just a walk to destress! Narrow lane of 2 way traffic to the top but can park lower down and walk up the steps to the hill. Has a gated off well and grassy moat to run around...

An absolute MUST when in Huddersfield, for the best view across town 100%
Really lovely walks in the area, time it for a sunset and you will be blown away.
Full 360 views on an ancient monument with the beautiful Victoria Tower, a landmark which can be spotted from all over town. Well worth your time, be wary of the road that leads you to the top car park, not much give way room, plus the walk up is far more enjoyable!

Victoria Tower is only open a few days a year. I found the date list through the Kirklees Council site after a quick Google search. Well worth a trip if you've never been before, a small entry fee and quite a few steps later and wow that's a view. There are lots of plaques with facts and history about Castle Hill itself outside the tower, with walkways connecting them.

Very interesting place, could be a good afternoon out with kids when combined with the tower and if you fancy teaching them some foraging skills, there are quite a few blue berry bushes up there on the slopes with lots to pick at the right time of year.

There's plenty of parking or you can walk up the hill via various steps and paths if you're that way inclined.

It's also a good place to watch meteor showers and other astrological events, away from the major light pollution but bare in mind the car park isn't open at night so you have to park lower down on the road and walk the last bit.

Great piece of history! We were passing and realised it was open. £2.20 to go to the top and see the history and the view. Probably needs more information boards about the history of the castle on the climb up to the top but the view was fabulous.

Only great things to say about our landmark. Regularly walk up to it with family to get an amazing view. There are times when the tower is open so you can walk to the top.

It's a nice place with a good view at the top of the castle. It's surrounded by a very nice flat area. An enjoyable walk and visit subsequently experiencing the innards of an old tower.

A very scenic area, the views are fantastic. It's worth noting there's not a lot to do, but it'd make a lovely place for a pit stop on a longer walk or for a picnic. It can be quite windy but it's worth it for the view! There is a big free parking

Great view of Huddersfield and beyond, almost as far as the eye can see. Nice historical building. Be prepared for an interesting drive up! Almost always windy, so expect it to be colder than you think.

This is castle hill, Huddersfield. A place with a history of more than 4,000 years, Castle Hill is a striking hill fort from the Iron Age. This place is controlled by the council and people are allowed to come in. Please take notes of the seasonal time schedule for parking. This place has a wheelchair accessablitity, you can walk your dog, car park available, no payment required, you can take pictures, you can fly your drone as it is a good site for drone piliots(please, meet the drone pilot legal requirement in UK), great sights to see on site. Historical building and lots more. It is highly recommended to visit this hill while you are in huddersfield as this will leave a long lasting memory for you.
