First time we have ever purchased a personalised registration and was a little apprehensive. We need not have been. It was a seamless and stress-free experience and extremely quick. From purchase to completion only took nine days. Also really good that you can purchase the actual made up plates from them with fixings. Will be purchasing from them again.

Not much communication after the order. When the plates arrived they did not include cushioning pads to protect the paintwork, or new screw cover caps which a competitor company included when I bought my private plate from them

I have had my number plate for sale with NewReg since August 2018. I had it marketed for a return of £5,000. Every nine months (give or take), I would hear from New Reg’s Sales Manager, Philip Ridsdale with possible client interest for my number plate. I never hear back with a counteroffer or follow up reply until last week on the 9th of July 2021.

I had a phone call from Philip, offering me a counteroffer from a potential buyer willing to pay £3,500. I asked Philip what is your commission totalling? He said it would be £300. I replied, if you can sell it within the next 24 hours, I would consider the counteroffer if the total is £3,800. A few hours later, Philip made the sale and was comfortable to have the number plate finally sold. However, it was not ideally what my original asking price was.

I asked Philip if he could send me the proof of purchase sell summary to have peace of mind that the deal was transacted. I received only an email confirming that he had sold my plate and return the sum of £3,500 once DVLA had done the transfer. I emailed again, elaborating a bit clearer what I was asking. He replied that the company does not do that, but the paperwork shows that we are returning to you £3,500.

I phoned Philip and asked him why I could not have the purchase sell amount? He answered that it was against GDPR, which I knew it is not, as I was not asking for any information about the buyer. I merely asked for proof of sale and a breakdown summary of the purchase price to have complete transparency. Philip said he would have to speak to the directors to see what he could render at my request. However, He kept implying that he was 'honest' with what he quoted the purchase amount as. I found this very peculiar and odd why a company would not have a clear organised approach to a purchase sell.

I heard back from Philip on the 12th of July 2021, clarifying he had spoken to the directors. Irrespective, he could not provide me with any evidence as proof of the made purchase. Then he will cancel the transaction. I thought it was even more strange how someone was so keen to want to cancel the sale, especially as over the phone he would not admit how much he sold the number plate for. I asked him various times during the phone call if your commission was £300 or more? He would not answer me and kept insinuating he would have to speak to his directors. Leaving me feeling extremely uncomfortable and felt taken advantage of now that he was trying to cancel what he had said and done.

He sent me a further email later that day, stating the reason given to me on the earlier calls, GDPR. I was not requesting any personal information about the buyer. I was, however, within my right to know the proof of the sell of what the breakdown amount was. He did not even disclose where within GDPR it states I would be unable to obtain the purchase breakdown summary.

The following day after speaking with Philip, I decided to phone and ask around other number plate brokerages to see if they withhold purchase sell breakdowns. It is not a standard method of business, and by the time I called the second brokerage, I found the buyer who originally wanted my number plate. The broker told me that NewReg sold my plate his client for £4,580 for NewReg cancelled the transaction, which means Philip was swindling me for £1,080, not for £300 commission.

I wrote a complaint letter to the company's director, requesting to provide me with the purchase sale breakdown, the Subject Access Request and an explanation of the specific GDPR section in which my request was in breach. They were obligated to reply to my letter within 30days, and unsurprisingly they did not respond.

Eventually they did, just to say they have acknowledged my letter and my review on trustpilot. I am 100% sure, nothing had been dealt with towards Philip.
