A wonderful place to stay eat and enjoy. Room superb Abbott room. All so clean. Staff so friendly. Lola deserves a special mention so funny and very helpful. There is nothing to fault this lovely old hotel. We will definitely be coming back and many friends too. Thank you all of you for looking after us so well.

Great food, great service, amazing old building. Room was very cool with the four post bed, wattle and daub, and historical elements, feels like a comfy trip through time. Linda and her team are rock stars. 10/10 would recommend to a friend.

Quite ridiculously charming pub with a unique layout. To get to the dining room we were in you follow from the bar through exposed stone corridors and outside through a beautiful internal courtyard with higgledy doors and stairs leading to mysterious areas and through a heavy wooden door back inside.

You pass an incredibly inviting spiral staircase leading to the bedrooms and turn into a wooden room with tables and padded leather benches, and a wooden wine jail with its bottle prisoners lit from within.

It's utterly enticing, the theatre of it is such fun.

The food is exceptional gastropub, every little thing is so much better than it needs to be but it's not remotely flashy. The tartar sauce is homemade for example. The best chips I've had for as long as I can remember. Ridiculous onion rings that honestly are worth the visit alone.

Service is top notch too. Our waitress was funny and very informed, and she took my daughters half eaten burger off the bill for us without being asked as she was concerned it was slightly underdone. It wasn't, she was just stuffed.

Its a really great place, I loved it.

Excellent as ever!

Went with my girlfriend and her parents for a joint birthday meal (for her and her father), and whilst me and her have been a few times before, it was a first time experience for her parents. As expected, with the delicious food and welcoming staff/atmosphere, nobody went home disappointed!

Can't recommend highly enough.

What a superb hotel! We stayed for a night with a dinner & breakfast package. The room was lovely, the hotel was warm and full of character and the food excellent. The staff were welcoming and very friendly. I bought this for my my wife's Christmas present and she was over the moon with it. Highly recommended, and a big thank you to all the staff who made our stay so enjoyable.

No longer feels like a pub. I miss the old layout. Stopped off after a muddy 10 mile walk with my dog, looking forward to the old George layout being sat around the old open fire. Since refurbishment the bar/pub area and dining room area have swapped. But both areas now very much feel like a restaurant - it’s just not what I wanted after a lovely walk with my dog, I felt a bit uncomfortable sat in there solo. That said I can never fault the staff they are amazing and the food was fantastic. It’s just no longer got the charm that it used to and although dogs allowed it feels too formal when actually visiting with one. Would have preferred more veggie/vegan options and relaxed food options - or two alternative menus so you can choose.

Of course it’s still a gorgeous pub, the food really was delicious and the staff are always great so it’s well worth a first visit - it’s just now a very different experience and not one that suits what I used to use the pub for.

Tips for the hotel management: water glasses pretty but way too small, water bottles again pretty but very impractical and hard to pour from. X

A fascinating gem of an ancient pub/hotel full of charm and character. The service was very good with excellent food and drink. Not ideal for those with disability because of footing and levels but there is flat access to the bar from the car park. It is dog friendly with very nice staff. The car park is small and it is in the centre of the village on roads that can be busy. Some of the hotel rooms are in another pleasant character house over the road from the main building.

We had a lovely stay at The George for our wedding anniversary. The location is stunning and we were lucky the weather was great the day we arrived so we could enjoy a drink in the garden overlooking the cricket ground with the village church in the background. You could not ask for a more typical English countryside view!

The room was nice, clean and had everything we needed. We understood all the pub rooms are to be re-furbished soon so we'll definitely look forward to a return visit to see what they are like.

Food in the restaurant was good. There was a good selection of different styles of food without being excessive, which hopefully meant all the ingredients were local and fresh.

Service was exceptional from everyone who looked after us. You got the impression that everyone enjoyed working there. I have to make a special mention to Lola, who worked in the dining room in the evening. She was an absolute star and took the experience to the next level which her genuine Italian hospitality. Not just for us, but everyone got five star treatment, whether it was their birthday, entertaining children or just regular couples like us.

Can't wait to return.

We visit The George regularly and have stayed overnight several times over the years. The food is amazing (the most recent visit on 9th). Never had a bad time spent there. The staff are very friendly, and always on hand to answer questions or tend to your needs. We love the history of the place, and the ambience is just so homely. We will definitely be back again, and hope to stay overnight again in the near future

I wouldn’t usually leave a review but today’s Sunday roast was so excellent it really deserves one! We have quite high standards when it comes to Sunday roast and it’s so difficult to find a good one. We had the veg Wellington with mushroom gravy that was so delicious plus two incredible roast beef’s. The veg and yorkshires were the best we’ve had in a long time, if ever!! And the gravy just yum. Takes a lot to impress us, we all said we’d define back. Thank you!

We've been going to The George for many years now and always enjoy excellent food and hospitality. We recommend a visit to this very old atmospheric and historical pub for exceptional food, wine beer and wonderful staff. Only thing I would love to see is a few more vegetarian options. There have been a few changes recently with the layout, its fantastic and hasn't lost any of its charm. Enjoy.

Had such a great first stay at The George! Rooms were idyllic - the exposed beams and traditional decor were such a lovely touch. It’s the perfect place for a quiet getaway!
All staff were friendly and welcoming and spent time making sure we were comfortable and settled in. Will be coming again and recommending!!

This is the perfect pub for medieval architecture enthusiasts. Such a large beautiful unspoilt medieval tavern with original real fireplaces and an ancient atmosphere. I come here time to time as it feels like a time warp in there. Lovely food and love the teas they do there.

Superb! I can’t rate this place high enough. Customer service was exceptional- thank you to Lola and Charlie who went above and beyond. Lola in particular was just lovely and it truly felt like nothing was too much trouble. What an asset to the team here. Without a shadow of a doubt I will be back.

We visited the George’s restaurant for a birthday dinner with the family, and had the loveliest time. Every meal was absolutely delicious and really well presented, couldn’t fault it at all!

The service was also amazing. We were served by the lovely Lola, and the only way to describe her is the mamma of the restaurant - such a warm and friendly person who really made the evening special, we felt like part of the family, thank you ☺

In short, excellent food and even better service!

I only visited for an excellent and well priced coffee (sugar cubes were a good touch). I particularly enjoyed the lovely view. I have driven past this inn many times on the way to Bristol airport and for once I was ahead of schedule and had time to stop. Looks like it would be a lovely place to stay for a few nights.

Amazing food, very friendly staff and a great ambience.

My wife and I had a tasting menu for Valentine’s Day and it was delicious. Every course was put together with so much care and attention.

Thank you Team George!

Went for lunch with a group of friends. We were greeted warmly and the taking of orders and service were prompt and friendly. The meals were all very tasty and enjoyable. The building itself is large and historic, very attractive.

I have not stayed here , but would love to. The service and environment was just perfect for a family Sunday lunch - and we had a great time exploring this historic pub. We were in the dungeon - which sounded ominous but turned out to be a warm, welcoming ambient room for larger tables if guests.
The menu offered a really good selection, very important as some of our party were vegetarian / pescatarian. I can recommend - hand on heart - this is one of the loveliest pub experiences I have had in the UK for as long as I can remember. Shame I only have personal pics .
