The castle stands tall amongst the white villages that are scattered throughout the valley.

It is a beautiful site and to be up there in the castle gives you a spectacular view of the entire zahara valley. This is a beautiful site in all of Spain and definitely should be on your bucket list, it is awe inspiring and wonderful.

Loved hiking around here, it's a really pretty place. We stopped here while driving from Seville to Ronda. It was a nice 3-4 hour visit.

Very good value visit to a well
Maintained , historical and preserved castle and surroundings . The viewpoints are exceptional and the gardens and information areas are easy to access.

This is a must to visit. But be prepared with good walking shoes. The slopes are quite steep, but the tower is well worth the climb. Visit the small modern building on the side of the fortress for some good archeological information. The glass floors will give the children something to talk about. Views are outstanding, and you can see the junction of the three provinces from here. There is only one entry and exit point. So don't look for another. There is an entry fee of 3.5 euros per adults and children are free.

Breathing! Such a picturesque view when you walk up to the tower. To be inside a building that was erected ~500 years before you is a unique experience. Must visit!

A very picturesque White Village, in a commanding position on top of a hill.
The views are breathtaking.
It was a Moorish castle ,and part of the structure survives
Our guide told us there are only 700 residents, and they haven't embraced tourism....no public loos!
It is well off the beaten track.

3:50€ entrance fee to the castle.
Steep walk up but well worth the view from the top.
I wish the museum had descriptions of the artifact in English too.

We could see the town off in the distance from the road on our way to Ronda from Seville. We turned around to go check it out as we missed the exit and we are so happy we did. So interesting and the incredible castle and it's views from the top are not to be missed.

Staying in the town itself is nothing. Start your climb up to the remains of the 13th-century Moorish castle and you will experience the magic of this place. Amazing views of the Zahara el Gastor reservoir and its turquoise waters. All these valleys and mountains around and the town below. The wind gently chills on a hot day and the silence all around. Fantastic place!

Energetic walk up to the main castle, well worth it for the views. Our 7 year old was fine but wouldn't recommend it for under 4's especially in the summer heat.

For me, it was a challenge to climb up to the fortress. Rugged and steep! Along with incredible outlook, my heart was still filled with joy. Turquoise lake is a shining beauty, just like a soft gem lays comfortably surrounded by rough stones. A real Nature contrast!

Great small town with a small keep/castle above town that you can hike up to. A great little stop if you are passing by. The view from the castle is amazing and you can climb up into the keep and up onto the roof which provides an amazing panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.

This is a great place with stunning views. It is well worth going up for the sunset as you will get a 360 degree colour show. If you head down after the sun dips below the horizon you'll have plenty of light left before you reach the town. You'll even meet a few of the local cats that have made their way up to catch their evening meal!

It's nice exploring the winding streets and narrow paths on the way up to the ruins of the historic 12th-century castle. While only the tower and some wall remains are left, and while in places the path up to Castillo de Zahara de la Sierra is quite steep, it's well worth it. From here you have absolutely stunning views over the charming and picturesque town of Zahara de la Sierra, which as most if not all of its buildings are painted white, is known as a pueblos blanco or "white town".

From the top you have amazing 360 degree views of the surrounding Andalusian valleys and hills and the man-made lake. It's clear why the Moors originally built the castle in this location. It's a perfect site to serve as a fortress in case of attack. The castle, a "Moorish eagle's nest", would have stood guard over the whole valley.
