Hotel Al Lago

Wonderful place in very beautiful Andalusian village Zahara de la Sierra. Nice view from terrace, fine hiking area nearby. Charming room, very quiet and cosy restaurant. Tasty breakfast.

My husband and I really loved our two night stay at Al Lago. The room was simple and lovely, with a great view of the fields and mountains in the distance. Mona and Stefan are warm and welcoming hosts, ready to answer all questions and make your stay as pleasant as possible. We ate in the terrace restaurant, both nights, and really enjoyed our dinners. The cold almond garlic soup with tomato gelato is outstanding! I would recommend this restaurant and this hotel to anyone planning a visit to Zahara de la Sierra.

Wow - what a delight! An absolute hidden gem worth discovering…I can’t recommend it enough. Accommodating, friendly, exquisite food - Spanish its DNA, international in aspiration, perfection in its delivery! We love Mona (front of house - who knows how to asks the right questions to get to the right requirement) and Stephen who knows how to turn those requirements into a mouthful of heavenly delight. Shhhhh…don’t tell anyone! ;-)

This was a lovely hotel and the owners were very helpful The meals were excellent - especially the Moroccan Chicken There were many options from a lovely dining room to a more relaxed bar and outdoor dining - oh and home made ice cream!

The restaurant is wonderful with lovely views of the lake, I had the steak and veggie tempura and my Husband had the octopus, we were very happy with the quality particularly with the steak and we don't believe we have had better elsewhere. The scenery was a big plus and the cats on the terrace were a wonderful welcome especially one small black cat who was particularly friendly. Overall Al Lago is a wonderful restaurant which I have recommended to all friends thinking about travelling to southern Spain and if im ever in the region again Al Lago is a must.

I went to Al Lago recently with friends and I was blown away with the attention to detail and quality of the hotel and restaurant. After arriving late in the evening after a long day of travel the reception was warm and welcoming and I felt well attended to. The rooms are spacious and well decorated with good water pressure and complementary water in the mini fridge which was very much appreciated during a heatwave. The AC was a welcome surprise as most hotels in the area don't seem to have this luxury. The restaurant was magnificent, given the reviews I wasn't sure what to expect however upon dining I was blown away, the quality of the seafood and meat was exceptional and whilst some may criticise the prices, for the quality and taste you really couldn't ask for more, the steak and tacos were wonderful and the service was efficient and attentive. The owner was approachable and ensured that all guests were happy with their service and to help if anybody had any questions. Overall Al Lago is a shining star amongst some rather sub par restaurants and hotels and despite the criticism that Al Lago faces you would be hard pushed to find a hotel/restaurant that provided better service, quality and value for money in the whole of Spain never mind Zahara.

Amazing place! I already want to come back. It´s perfect for an adventurous, nature get-away. The owners are hard-working, kind and thoughtful. They made us dinner, opened the restaurant just for us. The view from the window was very nice to wake up to. The neighbourhood is lovely as well, cats, hills, café´s... The room was clean and practical. A recommendation!

Great hotel in a beautiful village - had such a relaxing stay. Mona and the team are really lovely and helpful. The dinners were absolutely fantastic and the walks in the area are seriously special. Would highly recommend staying at Al Lago (and can't wait to come back).

We stayed here for 2 nights and loved the area, the town and the hotel. The room was spacious with a huge bathroom (we had one with a bath) and views across the valley. It was a wonderful break from the cities we has been visiting. Breakfast was good and we samples some of the delicious wine list.

2nd short visit and would go again. Hope everyone from the coast hears how good it is- a wonderful comparison to the beach holiday: beautiful landscape, lovely welcome, room & food. Lots to do around or stay still and listen to the birds. Loved Room 5. Thanks Mona & team.

I recently spent a delightful week in Zahara de La Frontera visiting friends and stayed 8 nights at the charming Al Lago hotel there overlooking the reservoir. The air-conditioned room was extremely clean and well appointed with a large comfortable bed, closet and personal safe, in room coffee maker and refrigerator, and a roomy bathroom with plenty of space for toiletries etc. The included breakfasts had a wide selection from local cured ham to delicious crepes and a full traditional English spread. Each room has a personal balcony overlooking the lake and the Sierra. I enjoyed a delicious leisurely dinner one evening with friends and family at the hotel restaurant on the terrace. The menu and daily specials included many local specialties with paella, langoustines, and fresh locally caught fish.
The staff were all extremely friendly, courteous and attentive. The hotel is very reasonably priced and I would highly recommend the property.

The hotel is superb! very clean and in a very good location. Our room was overlooking the lake and the scenery was great. The staff at the hotel were very professional and very attentive. The food was delicious and the breakfast a treat. We definitely will return, Highly recommended.

Very nice atmosphere in the hotel. clean and high quality, recently renovated rooms. Outstanding views from the windows facing the lake and mountains. Totally would recommended! Friendly service.

We just did a girls weekend at the hotel and restaurant, with cooking classes, massages and breakfast, dinner. What an amazing experience and wonderful couple, Mona and Stephan. The food here is creative, cooked perfectly and delicious. All the staff are international, and extremely pleasant you can tell they enjoy their work. Cheesecake to die for! Couldn't have asked for a better weekend getaway! Cheers to Mona and Stephen.

We've received the best service and food here since we entered Spain (which was one year ago).
The staff were so attentive and friendly, the Manager came to check on every table if everything was ok, the food was amazing and very nicely presented. We will definitely be back as soon and as often as we can.

Just a great experience with the staff, everything provided, pricing, and especially dining. Wish I could live there.

Beautiful location but we arrived on the one day Reception wasn't fully staffed. It wasn't a problem!I also wanted to add that the hotel Manager and staff were very helpful when we were lost and could only contact them for assistance. Greatly appreciated their help!!

We thought this was the nicest room that we stayed in during our 2 weeks in Spain (room #6, not sure if it is standard or an upgrade). Bed was very comfortable. All rooms have a lovely view. The staff was very helpful. We only had breakfast (which was lovely, we pre-selected different items so that we had lots to share) so I can't comment on the restaurant for dinner. Parking was easy, lots available (when we were there). We walked through the town and to the castle for sunset. We would happily stay here again. FYI the municipal pool is only open in the summer.
