Zahara-El Gastor Reservoir

This place is beautiful. Wild flowers everywhere. We stopped to have a picnic under a tree and to take photos of the lovely views.

A nice winding path leads down to the side of the water, we followed that for a distance but did not go all the way down to the water. Another less defined path leads up to the top of a hill where the views are even better.

The less defined path is quite steep and there are many loose stones underfoot. Probably best to be wearing decent shoes or trainers although you could do it wearing sandals if you were careful.

Several parking areas with plenty space for a number of cars. Lovely relaxing place with many different birds flying, singing and generally making the place beautifully relaxing.

When traveling around this part of Andalusia, you must visit the town of Zahara de la Sierra. Picturesquely situated on a hill with a castle on its top, from where you will be able to admire the views like from a postcard. The water reservoir with its turquoise water makes a great impression and while walking along the paths above the town or touring the area you will find many places where you will have to stop to enjoy this unforgettable view.

The Zahara-El Gastor Reservoir (Embalse in Spanish), located in the middle of mountains, is a impressive and massive reservoir in Zahara de la Sierra. Not only is it a spectacular sight, the reservoir also offers water activities including kayaking, canoeing, swimming, fishing and camping and picnicking and because of this, since being built in 1992, it has made the historic and peaceful village of Zahara de la Sierra an even more popular tourist attraction.

Absolutely gorgeous and worth the trip.

Precioso sitio, muy tranquilo y poco transitado. Se accede mediante un sendero de dificultad baja. Recomiendo ir en horas tempranas y con agua si vais en verano. Las vistas impresionantes, el agua turquesa

Lugar precioso y tranquilo junto al pueblo de Zahara d la sierra , y también especial para los amantes d la pesca

Lo visitamos de pasada pero paramos para hacer fotos. Totalmente recomendable hacerlo cuando se esté por la zona porque las vistas son espectaculares. Nosotros íbamos camino de Zahara

La vista de este embalce es maravillosa.....
Pero no hay que olvidar que es la más grande reserva de agua para toda la provincia de Cadiz y alrededores.....

Uno de los embalses de la provincia de Cádiz. Increibles vistas del Embalse. Cuanto más subes en dirección al Puerto de las Palomas, más bonito se divisa el embalse. Buen sitio para los amantes de la naturaleza y de la fotografía. Parada "obligatoria" si visitas Zahara de la Sierra.

Maravilloso paraje donde pernoctar con tu furgo o autocaravana. Hay que tener cuidado si ha llovido porque el terreno se ablanda. Las vistas son espectaculares de la sierra de grazalema bañada por este embalse. No hace demasiado frio en invierno.

Bonitas vistas del pantano desde el castillo de Zahara de la sierra. Merece la pena subir al castillo que es gratis y desde arriba ver el pantano y también el pueblo.En este pantano se hacen diversas actividades. Cerca de este se encuentra la sierra de Grazalema.

100% recomendable para visitar y disfrutar de vistas maravillosas y naturaleza.

No pudimos acceder , veniamos desde Grazalema , y el GPS nos indicó un camino de tierra, poco accesible, muy defectuoso, no pudimos visitarlo. Los ayuntamientos deberían valorar esta situación y aportar presupuestos e infraestructuras ,
Y sobre todo facilitar al turista el acceso.

Sitio tranquilo y precioso, lástima que contenía poca agua por la sequera, con agua debe ser fabuloso. No os lo perdáis.
