Hostal Restaurant El Pirineo

Stopped off for light lunch. Couple of 'Bikers' riding the C-70 from Alcoy to Benidorm...Service and food excellent, stunning location.... it's now on the list of Coffee/lunch breaks

After a hectic two weeks of fiesta, we were looking for a quiet place away from the summer madness of the coast for a short one-night break, in essence drive out for dinner and stay overnight. El Pirineo was a perfect fit. It might not be the most modern place but that is it's the charm. it doesn't need to be. The hosts are warm, genuine and friendly. The bed was one of the most comfortable I've experienced (perfect for the break) and the bedroom met all requirements; a big balcony with great views, a clean bathroom and great shower - and air-conditioning. And a swimming pool! What more do you want? The restaurant was quite amazing too, absolute value-for-money menu del día. We'll be back again one day, definitely.

We have been here at least 3 times this time only for a tea refreshment, however in the past have had a couple of lunches and it's situated in a beautiful location. Again it's not perhaps a jaw dropping property but it's great value for the meals they offer, comfortable with lovely views we can't drive past without stopping, and don't intend to.

Fantastic food- ribs with chimchuri sauce, vegetables in mozzarella and goats cheese. Nothing too much trouble for Rafa. Comfortable beds. Great stay after a day walking in the mountains

I have eaten here for over 15 years. Always had good service. In 2003 Melitta (My Wife) and i bought a piece of land and i built a log cabin.
So we spend most weekend there. In summer we go up there for at least three months. So we have used the Pireneo many, many times.
I cannot praise it enough for either a full meal or just a few tapas. It used to be run by Rafael, Rafi as we were later asked to call him, when he became a friend. He retired two years ago, but we often still see him helping his handsome son. Also Rafi. So a real old Spanish family restaurant.
Saturdays and Sundays very busy so best book. But they will always try to find you a table. My favorite dish is pig's knuckle full of juicy pork.. However they do not skimp on the starters.Which can be up to four different items. However have a good look at the menu to get a good idea of what's offered. If you can, try and get an outside seat as the view of the valley and mountains are a real treat. If it happens to snow get up there as the snow is often thick enough near the castle to use a sledge. In summer try a drive up there. No signposts so just face East and look to your right. It's perched on a rock like mesa which can be seen from as far as Benifato. If your'e feeling energetic try a walk to the castle. It can be done by a 7o yr old in 30 mins. Don't forget your camera. On the drive there from the sea take your time as the roads especially at weekend are full of motorbikes. You'll also see racing bikes. Ridden by those supreme athletes. You know (The mad ones). All are welcome at the Pireneo.
