Castillo Marquez de los Velez

Fantastic site of local Cultural interest. The Castle is a beautiful attraction in its own right but combined with its Art Gallery, Library display in the Bibleotecha and an absolutely outstanding display of metal Sculptures in another section I found we were actually stuck for time. I would visit again, there are lovely displays of the artifacts and archaeological finds associated with the local Agaric culture/people's and many items of Phoenician origin with storyboards/information panels describing the displays. There's also much information on Louis Siret. The staff were extremely friendly and hugely helpful and informative. I don't know why the museum isn't packed out daily, it's a little gem. I wished we had went a little earlier and could have spent more time. Having previously visited the Phoenician Necropolis at Villaricos we decided after leaving the museum to find the Agar settlement at nearby Fuente Alamos..... Unfortunately the site is down a very rough track and while the head of the valley is undeniably beautiful any work at preservation or stabilisation on site has been abandoned and it is now completely overgrow and beyond recognition. It's possible that the abandonment of this project and the interpretative centre/reception at the Caves/Cuevas near Cuevas del Almanzora itself is due to lack of visitors.... This is a real pity as these places are both beautiful and historically significant.

Beautifully restored castle in Aguilas. Walk up not for disabled or elderly. 2 euros only to visit

Amazing place. My daughter just had a piano recital here, and all the kids played instruments beautifully. Also, there was a nice bar across the road, ( know what I mean?) 😁🍺😁😁😁

Go in the morning or evening because the courtyard gets pretty warm. The museums that are also on the site are very interesting and the ticket prices are very reasonable.

Very interesting treasure chest of the surprisingly rich history of Cuevas de Almanzora and of Almeria.

The arquitecture in itself is not unique, but the ammount of cultural assets you may find inside the building are fully worth to visit:
1) The "torre del homenaje" with their unique "graffities" from the past 4 centuries
2) The painting museum, including well known masters of the XX Century art
3) The exhibition building, continuosly performing sessions from the prehistorical ages to the more recent XIX history of this area of Spain

and all of them well grounded in the local highly qualified public personnel managing all these cultural initiatives

not alot there but a great day out and alot to see, fresh meat and veg, plus and very friendly café.

A little gem hidden away, and it's free.
The museums on site are really good as well.

Fantastic surprise, great town friendly locals, great street market and a municipal market. The Fort was great and free to walk round. Will go back.

Nice place to visit, right in town!! Twice a week there is a market outside the castle.

Great market, Tuesday, and Thursday, overlooked by impressive castle. Cuevas del Almanzora has a lot to offer!
