Hacienda Zuleta is a beautiful hotel in Angochagua. The atmosphere is very romantic and private.
My husband and I stayed here in mid-February, and we couldn't have been more pleased with our stay. Our host, Santiago, was so helpful and made sure we were able to complete all of the activities we wanted during our short 2-night stay.
The food is delicious and authentic, and most nights you can eat at a big, communal table, giving you the opportunity to get to know the other guests and share stories from your day. The wait staff are also very kind and attentive!
The spa was excellent (my husband and I got a massage), and even houses a Turkish bath and Jacuzzi.
The Andean Condor reserve was a very special experience as well! Their resident biologist (and likely his very sweet dog, Emma) walks you through the conservation efforts in place for this beautiful bird and other wildlife native to the area (like the spectacled bear), and you also get to see the birds in their breeding area. We learned a lot!
We took a cooking class, which was also wonderful! We learned how to make empanadas and aji, which we plan to make for our friends at home!
The hacienda also offers horse back rides. This was my personal highlight of our stay! The horses are very gentle and easy to handle. The views on the trail ride were incredible! Even for a beginner, I felt comfortable and safe.

The owners and the staff could not possibly be nicer, it is a beautiful hacienda I feel so fortunate to have been able to share in it's amazing history, if only for a short time in its story. The condor program was fascinating and the resident biologist was full of information, the horses we rode were all fat and happy.
What a wonderful stay.

Relaxing soul cleansing couple of days. We were greased with enthusiasm and hospitality. The rooms were comfortable and well stocked. The hacienda was large yet felt cozy and welcoming. We rode horses to see the condors and walked back. Then the next day we walked to the waterfall. It started raining and our guide Mauriceo rode a bicycle out to us to bring an umbrella. Delicious food. The hat water bottle in the bed is to die for!

Hacienda Zuleta in Ecuador is a hidden treasure! Our stay there felt like a magical escape amidst the stunning Andean mountains. The historic hacienda was full of charm and elegance, and the staff treated us like royalty with their warm hospitality from the moment we arrived.

The rooms were beautifully decorated, combining modern comforts and traditional style. We loved the cozy fireplace that added a romantic touch to the evenings, and waking up to the views of the lush countryside was a delightful experience.

The food at Hacienda Zuleta was exceptional! Each meal was a delightful adventure with locally-sourced ingredients and authentic Ecuadorian flavors, creating a true culinary masterpiece.

The activities offered were diverse and kept us engaged throughout our stay. From horseback riding on scenic trails to exploring ancient ruins, there was always something exciting to do. We even had the chance to visit the working farm, where we learned about sustainable practices and tried our hands at milking cows.

What made Hacienda Zuleta truly special was its dedication to preserving Ecuadorian heritage and supporting the local community through conservation and social responsibility efforts.

We highly recommend Hacienda Zuleta to anyone seeking a unique blend of history, nature, and culture in Ecuador. It’s an unforgettable experience that deserves five stars!

Shoutout to our host Vinicio also! He is just amazing!

We had the most wonderful time at Zuleta! From the local organic food, to the beautiful mountain views, to the activities-- we enjoyed every second. All Zuleta staff were incredibly kind and helpful (special thanks to Mauricio, our host, and David, our horseback riding guide), and we loved how involved the Plaza Lasso family continues to be on site. We will certainly return and would recommend Zuleta to anyone hoping to experience the beautiful Ecuadorean countryside.

Every possible comfort and attention to detail was available. Available activities were wide-ranging but what made my particular experience stand out was the way in which the manager, David, anticipated what was possible for me to participate in. I had fallen and sprained my ankle an a hour before arrival so was immediately loaned crutches, supplied with ice-packs over 3-days and negotiated a personal programme so that I missed nothing. It’s those small details of kindness that typify the ethos of this particular location

I can't say enough great things about HZ! My wife and I came right around a year ago to check out the Hacienda and had such an amazing trip we said right away that we wanted to come back with our two girls (8 & 11) as well as our mothers. Both the moms and kids say it is their new favorite place! A few shout outs to amazing staff and owners...Margarita...the youngest daughter or past president Galo Plaza Lasso was so gracious with her time and is now our daughter's "Latin" grandma! Fernando, who we did not get to meet on our first trip was a joy to talk with as well. Santiago, Mauricio and Gabriella who helped host our family and give us tours of the property were so accommodating with setting up hikes, horse back rides etc.

We did two horse back rides with Jose as our guide and they were both fantastic! As novice horse back riders they do a great job of explaining everything and their horses are excellent! Our 8 year old was definitely apprehensive at first but by the end was having the time of her life!

HZ is a great place to go for couples...but for me I would say take the kids! They really cater to families and the whole trip the iPads never came out of the suitcases. It is so safe there that we would let the kids explore the grounds which includes swings, climbing wall, play ground, treasure hunt and the best part... a small zip line that they probably rode a hundred times.

Can't wait to go back and miss our Hacienda Zuleta family already!

Perhaps the nicest property I've ever stayed in; yes it's expensive, but luckily I wasn't paying! Amazing property, full of history and enough activities to keep you busy for 2 or 3 days at least. Mountain biking, horse riding, hiking, and relaxing by the fire eating endless amount of cheese!

An amazing place! The service is so great, they make you feel like a friend. The place is big, with many activities. We were greeted by wild condors flying above the hacienda, it was amazing!
Their horses are very docile and worth taking for a ride.

If you ever get the chance to go here take it, beautiful place fabulous rooms, lovely food and gorgeous horses. Lots to do at the Hacienda and amazing trips to the surrounding area. Friendly knowledgeable staff who quite frankly couldn't do enough to ensure our trip was a success. Would happily go back again and again... don't miss the 6pm nibbles, the cheese is produced on site and is delicious. Take a trip to see the condors and if you ride taking the herd out or in is a must, if you are an equestrian there are horses to all levels and they are well kept. My husband and I did a half day ride through the community, I have my own horse who can be difficult my husband hadn't ridden for about 20 years and both horses were perfect for our respective abilities.

A great end to a three-week stay in Ecuador. Dating from a 16th century Jesuit building which became the family home of a sometime Ecuadoran president, the house and grounds are worthy of exploration alone. The estate includes a sanctuary for condors which is involved with a breeding programme. Ethos of stay is to make one feel one is a family guest. Meals served at a shared table (out of which you can opt). Individual attention from a member of staff for each party.
