San Jorge Eco-lodge Tandayapa - Hummingbird Sanctuary

A lodge beautifully located in the rainforest with very friendly and courteous staff, great food. Large and very nicely designed rooms. Great environment for bird watching and hiking. Absolute peace to relax. Very well described hiking trails. We were very excited and would love to come back. Many thanks to the team and owner.

We spent four wonderful days at SJT, and hope to visit other San Jorge lodges soon. It is the safest place we have seen during this pandemic, as Ecuador is following the sensible safety protocols. The introduction to Ecuadorian cuisine was tasty and educational. Rosa and Vicente presented every meal in a highly artful manner, with ingenious execution of a diverse range of basic ingredients, done with variety and never ending creativity. The birding locations were well designed, and sightings were plentiful. We saw so many spectacular birds just around the lodge. All the rooms are very comfortable and provide numerous bird viewings, with enormous windows and expansive balconies integrated into nature. The paths were fantastic, well-groomed, and for every level of walker. You could take a short walk and view a lot, or you could take the entire day for a leisurely visit the Lost Stream. The entire staff was very accommodating and responsive, from George to Vicente to Rosa to Karen. We enjoyed the quiet, the nature; and the entire area has much to offer in the way of coffee plantations, chocolate, fish farms, and roadside food. There is so much here to enhance your visit and relaxation, including the resource materials in the Observatory. The beauty of the lodge and the sensitive integration into nature will transport you to a time of discovery not felt since childhood. Enjoy the paths!

We had a great time at San Jorge Tandayapa. There are three canopies at the lodge that create excellent opportunities for bird photography and bird watching. Tandayapa is in a tropical cloud forest, at an elevation of about 7,000 ft. The accomodation at San Jorge are very comfortable. Room #8 has a balcony looking over the mid-growth forest. You can hear the strong flow of the river in the valley below. The restaurant provides an excellent introduction to Ecuadorian foods, including delicious fruits, soups, and meat or fish entrees. The staff provide excellent service.

Fantastic birding and gourmet meals. I especially liked the creative breakfasts.

Marvelous place, peaceful, colorful, plenty of hummingbirds some of them Choco endemics, also a lot of other species.
A wonderful place for birdwatching, photography or just relax.

Happy to see so many hummingbird but the lodge is not in good condition. You can smell and feel the moist all over the room. Besides, there were some mosquitos and bugs inside the room but they don't have the coil or repellent provided.

This is not interesting because there are no birds.
