Went on a cruise to Amber Cove and have a great experience! The people, the history, the food... the atmosphere was welcoming. It was very beautiful. In this port, you are also able to get a stamp in your passport book and take in Dominican history/facts at the same time. I will be taking my kids!

A great place to visit easily from your docked cruise ship.
Simply grab your swim gear and walk down the pier. You only need to show your cruise card to clear back to your ship. There are many free beach chairs to use by the pools. ( umbrellas are for rent a and staff will bring them to your chairs and set up). There is a nice splash pool for little kids too. You can easily walk back to your ship for lunch and drinks and a break from the sun or to drop off any purchases you made from the many stores located in this port area. There are free public bathrooms, a restaurant, swim up bar and pool lounge chair service for those wishing to purchase food or drinks all in the pool area. Enjoy the upbeat music and sunshine. They offer many extra to purchase too, like pool floats, regular and fish massages. You can add on zip lining or a waterslide pass too (which looked like fun). If you venture out of the shop side, opposite the aqua area there is a small beach to relax at if you prefer. This was an easy, relaxing day in the sun . We really enjoyed this day in port.

Amber Cove was lovely! We did the zip lining and horseback excursion. The ride to the location was good and educational we got to see the country side of the city. Zip lining was amazing and I would definitely do it again! First time riding a horse and enjoyed every second of it. Lunch they prepared for us was delicious also. I would definitely return!

Loved going here. Rented a car, and if you have never been, I recommend you take a taxi or a tour bus if you do not know how to drive. Great people. I will go back hopefully one day soon.

Amber Cove was gorgeous, we had a great time! We loved zip lining and the lunch they provided was great!

*Any one that did zip lining on 3/27/24 during the 1130 timeslot please comment, I forgot to purchase the link for pictures!

We had a blast when we came here on our Carnival Cruise. Great area to hang out. Pool, slides, zip line food and drinks. The Zip line was 28.00 per person unlimited all day but there were 9 of us so we decided to rent the VIP section for 200.00. Including chairs and umbrellas right in front of the pool, bar and restaurant. It also includes wifi and zip lines. Good value for us.

This port was better than I expected. We planned on just going on an excursion this day because we didn’t know what to expect here. However, we were surprised by the large pool and clean shops. The pool has a lazy river and was great for swimming with a zero entry. There are many chairs so we got a few together. They also had a kiddie area which was good. We got off the ship pretty early and had a short time to see this area before going on the bus for our excursion. We also liked our excursion so don’t be afraid to leave and explore!

Awesome place to chill and get some sun at the pool, shop, and get food and drinks. If you want to go to a good beach, it's 20 minutes away. Cost is about 35 round trip per person. There is a local beach 5 mins away. We took a cab and left right away. It was full of seaweed but had little shops the people try to get you to go in to shop. Their prices were a little cheaper. You can barter with them.

A Port of Adventure and Relaxation - Five-Star Experience!

Amber Cove Port in the Dominican Republic is a true Caribbean paradise that offers an unforgettable experience for travelers of all kinds. From the moment you step off the cruise ship, you are greeted by a vibrant and bustling port area with a plethora of activities and amenities to enjoy.

The port's design is both beautiful and functional, with shops, restaurants, and entertainment options that cater to every interest. Whether you're in the mood for shopping, dining on delicious local cuisine, or simply taking in the stunning views of the ocean, Amber Cove has it all.

I had the opportunity to explore the surrounding area through a shore excursion and was amazed by the natural beauty and adventure opportunities that awaited me. From zip-lining through the lush forests to relaxing on pristine beaches, there was never a dull moment during my visit.

The staff at Amber Cove Port were friendly, helpful, and truly made me feel welcome. Their dedication to providing top-notch service added an extra layer of enjoyment to my experience.

Officially the first location outside of Mainland USA that I have ever visited and absolutely loved it. The lazy river was the best part aside from the food of course. Definitely didn't leave the resort area, we attempted to but the taxi drivers right outside the armed gates gave off SNATCHING vibes so we turned right back into the gates to enjoy our vacation so we didn't get TAKEN. lol But nonetheless, absolutely LOVED IT! My sister and niece joined me in the venture!

Beautiful relaxing day by the pool. Lazy river. Zipline. Cabanas for rent. Get here early from the cruise ship to find shaded lounge chairs near the bathroom and Nathan's food truck. The spot stays shaded for the day until we left at 3pm. Kids pool with water slides available.

Amber Cove is a very nice port. It has a lot to offer. You can shop, eat, or rent something to have fun with. You can rent kayaks, paddle boats, stand-up paddle boards, pool noodles, umbrellas, and many other pool accessories. You can also rent a cabana for the day. They offer poolside, mountain side, ocean side, and for the big spender the Grand Cabana for $2000. Overall, it was a great friendly port with tons to offer.

Beautiful place. The cruise port had a good amount of shops and a lot of good excursions to choose from. My wife and I road horses on a beach and it was such an amazing time.

Great spot for a cruise ship to make port. Great access to Amber Cove and the Atlantic Ocean! They even have pedal shuttles to transport you from ship to shore and back.

Great place awesome ambience!
Comfortable to relax and sunbathe but also fun for the kiddos. Has 2 slides that were $5 each unlimited and a zip line that crosses the place.
Gorgeous views, for amazing pictures and the coolest little houses to rent in the water for a more private experience. Clean and comfortable bathrooms. Staff was very service oriented. Only got to experience the pool area but it has a beach area that looked amazing. Shops were full of an awesome assortments of souvenirs.

We did the Waterfalls of Damajagua excursion with our Carnival Celebration Cruise Ship. Do not be afraid to take on this adventure. Yes, it involves a hike, but they take so many breaks that you don't even get a chance to become winded! They also give you two bottles of water and encourage you to save them. We all ended up giving back a whole bottle of water because we didn't drink on the way up, expecting it to become strenuous! Drink your water! We went down 7 slides and were in the water for about 20 minutes. It is chilly, so any longer would have gotten uncomfortable. I wore long Irontide shorts and a rash guard swimsuit. This really helped me not to get beaten up by the rocks. My phone remained secure & dry in my pocket. We weren't too hot hiking up because you are mostly in the shade of trees. If you wear prescription glasses, the guide will hold them for you during each slide and then give them back while you are walking in the water. You can not wear sunglasses. I have a cataract, so sun exposure is not an option. I bought transition contact lenses, and they worked perfectly. You can see the waterfalls from the zip lines, just sayin'! The guides take awesome pictures and video's and sell them for $50 after the excursion. They give you a zip drive. You have to ASK where to get your pictures after the excursion ends and before you get back on the bus. They do not PUSH that sale like they do in Mexico!! We did not take extra clothes. We dried out on the hike down. You can rent a locker with your cruise Sail & Sign card, but we didn't need one. You can wear any water shoes or tennis shoes in the water. NO CROCS, though. After our excursion, my hubby and I took a taxi into Puerto Plata Town to see umbrella street, pink street, and eat at the authentic Dominican Republic restaurant, Polanco. We had two hours. The taxi ride takes 21 minutes EACH WAY. Trust the taxi drivers when they tell you that they WILL get you back to the ship in time! I wanted to go to the port chocolate shop, buy Mama Juana, and buy a Christmas tree ornament BEFORE going on our excursion. I took advantage of the island bikes to quickly get to the Amber Cove port shops, back to the ship and back to the Amber Cove port shopping area before our excursion (yes, the cruise dock is longer than usual). I knew we would not have time to shop at the port AND go into Puerto Plata Town after our excursion.

• Visited on a Tuesday in late December on Carnival Vista.
• We were first ship there and arrived at 7AM. We were off the ship around 7:30. The pool itself didn’t open until 8AM. Please be aware the time on land is an hour off of ship time.
• We did not buy any extras including the water slides. We were trying to do this trip relatively cheap.
• It was overcast at first and kind of raining/misting. It did eventually clear up in the afternoon. We only stayed out for 4 hrs until about noon. We knew there wasn’t much shade and we had prime choice of whatever we wanted. We hung out near the bathrooms in the back. We played near the bridges in the pool to use for shade. Soon after the carnival celebration arrived it was super packed and everyone was hunting for seats. We went around the pool a couple of times but as they got a loud music playing near the bar area, we just stayed at the zero entry part and played there.
• We decided it was way to crowded in the pool and were hungry, so we went back onto the ship.
• We did stop by all the shops before going back onto the ship. We wanted to look for pins of Amber Cover/Dominican Republic but were only able to find a couple at one shop and it wasn’t great but we were desperate and bought it anyways. There was a huge line at this point for pictures with the AMBER COVE sign. We just stood off to the side and got a picture instead of waiting. We also got pictures at the pier where it also had a “Amber Cove” sign.
• We would visit again and probably do the same thing. Not sure if we would do anything different. Maybe get the pictures we wanted first with few people around and then go to the pool. It all depends on what time your ship arrives and if there are other ships that will be in port as well. You can check the port schedule before hand for the date your cruise should be there so you have an idea of who else will be there and what time.

The cruise port has some great party pools with DJ. The cabanas are for rent and lots of Dominican souvenirs are available at most shops. Once you walk out of the port entrance, you will see many taxi drivers hassle for customers. It will cost about US $40 to 50 to the town of Puerto Plata.
