Sunscape Puerto Plata Dominican Republic

This was our second time at this resort and it was just as good as our last visit. We are absolutely devastated for it to be closing at the end of April. It's the perfect location, perfect size and the food is always so good!

We requested the same room as last time as in my opinion it's the best location (16103, SunClub family section) and we got it! Obviously requests aren't guaranteed, but they definitely came through for us 😃.

The room we booked is SO big (basically two rooms made into one), so there is tons of room for activities. We had a minor issue with our A/C, but it was fixed very quickly!

Carlos in the family SunClub restaurant/bar is an absolute delight. I remembered him from our last trip and his infectious smile and "happy happy!" tag line didn't no unnoticed! Also, another gentleman named Carlos who works at the front and assists with guests coming/going/taking bags to and from their room was phenomenal. He was so kind and hustled to ensure all our bags (including my husband's "precious" golf clubs) were delivered safely to our room.

We genuinely love every single thing about this place and haven't had a complaint either time we've been.

Stayed Jan. 9th to 16th 2024. Rooms were very nice and clean. Air conditioning worked fine. Did have problem with door lock but it was fixed very quickly. Staff was friendly. Food was good. I found there to be plenty of variety. You shouldn't go hungry! Pizza was excellent. Restaurants were busy, with long wait times and no reservations allowed. Pool bar and eatery were very good too. Wifi was a bit spotty depending on where you were. Daily and nightly entertainment.

My boyfriend and I spent 2 weeks here and we loved it! The food and drinks were amazing! We really enjoyed that everything was super close so you didn’t feel like you were walking the whole vacation. The staff were all so kind and took care of us, especially Jordany and Franklin! Thank you sunscape for making our stay the best stay we’ve had in a long time! I want to say to everyone writing terrible reviews, I think that maybe if your expectations were so high you should’ve stayed at a higher end resort and paid more money it’s as simple as that. To me this place was perfect for the amount we spent and the quality of service that we got, which was always great . Also people if you want better service tip, these people work for tips, a dollar here and there won’t kill you. Also I never smelt “raw sewage” once the 2 weeks I was there. This place was genuinely amazing and my boyfriend and I made friends for life here. I think the people writing these reviews clearly had expectations that no one could fulfil, if you want serious luxury pay for it.
Anyway to people reading this, it is a great place to stay, my boyfriend and I really enjoyed our time there and we can’t wait to go back

Food was amazing, staff were amazing (especially the entertainment team)!! Would go back to this resort again for sure!! Everything was kept so clean and organized and made for an awesome vacation!

I recently returned from my first trip to the sunscape puerto plata, l traveled to many areas of the DR, a good friend travels to sunscape alot so l thought l would try it with my two sons and grandson, we couldn't have asked for a better place, helpful and friendly. I would return in a heartbeat. Only to find out that it was closing the end of April 2024, be sold to some money hungry land developers what everhappened to the two week getaway traveler that likes to pampered. I guess another one bites the dust but do they care, well l guess l will move on to another resort and wait it is closed for the next greedy development, l feel sorry for all the locals that will lose their job.

Starstruck theater bar the best staff, Laurys, Maireni and Gleyvin. They have outstanding guest experience and made every trip to the bar very worth it!

Amazing resort. It was a small resort, so everything was nice and close, but not too crowded. We could always find chairs at the pool and never had to wait in line for a meal or drinks. When we realized the beds weren't big enough for us and our 2 children, they brought a whole extra bed to our room! The air conditioning was cold, the drinks were great and everyone was so friendly. The resort was so clean and workers were constantly tidying up leaves and debris, as well as making improvements around the resort. It was fantastic!

Very well coordinated.Enjoyed a full week of fun,healthy ,excellent food with beverages ,too.Would love to come back to enjoy and relax with the wonderful most delicious food served with smiling faces always.The,beach was clean and supervised always with security around .We,used go walking early morning and we were greeted by friendly people always on the road. My second visit to this wonderful resort. It's a small resort,which is great,you can literally walk around it in 10 mins. It is absolutely immaculate. The buffet is good the s la cartes are excellent. Booze is good and you won't find more efficient or more friendly staff anywhere. It's not a big party resort but there is a disco on the beach at night. I highly recommend this place . There is no way you are beating this place for the price.

The stay here has been amazing all the staff have been amazing. The food is amazing we ate in the sun club place because we were members while we were here. They places is so friendly and clean they all work so hard to make it feel like home would come back every year even alone I feel so safe here. When to the front lobby and book a taxi to go see the city the guy was amazing kept us safe and close by. If you like the ocean go to ocean world and watch the show they will not let you down for sure. I will miss all the amazing staff and people here going to be sad to leave today

Beautiful beach, excellent service, delicious food - especially Dominican, had a very good time with my wife 😘

My wife, son and his girlfriend stayed from December 27th to January 3rd and had a great time.
The rooms are very clean and well appointed with the basic toiletries, including plenty of towels and pre stocked beverages.
The resort is getting dated in the common pool area, but certainly not horrible and we never had an issue getting pool chairs.
The food is pretty good, we really enjoyed the pizza and coffee shop and not having to make reservations for the restaurants.
The night entertainment is okay, very typical all inclusive entertainment. What we enjoyed was the young women singing in the lobby each night…absolutely amazing and she certainly sand the hard songs like Adele, Celine Dion, Alisha Keys and Whitney Houston as well as many others.
We spoke to many people and many have been returning year after year.
All staff were very friendly and I mean all staff.
Overall this resort offers pretty good value in the 3.5 to 4 star resort category.
If you have sticker shock this year and are thinking Cuba, this resort is worthy of making it to your short list.

Sunscape was a great place to do a solo trip as a young woman. I felt very safe and everyone was incredibly kind. I highly recommend upgrading to the sun club package. It is worth it to be able to get a room upgrade, room service, and access to a few amenities others cannot. A lot of the reviews are mentioning the food. I think it's great. It all has the Dominican "spin" on it, so you cannot expect everything to taste the same as in North America. Things aren't salted as much, but you can add salt (I prefer this). The buildings, though a bit dated, are kept very clean and updated. They were re-sealing the children's pool while I was there, but the main pool is so large it really didn't matter. The shower is literally the best shower I have ever had - rainfall and nice hot water (or cold if you so wish). I cannot say enough how kind everyone is. They are so welcoming, especially of you trying to speak some Spanish. The water aerobics classes at 11am daily are SO fun! The beach wasn't too crowded, and it was spectacular views. My balcony door did not lock properly, but I was on the third floor so it did not bother me. Accessibility-wise, it's not the greatest, but not the worst. There are no elevators, but there are ground floor suites. Most of the restaurants are up a flight of stairs. A few have no chair lift, but the rest can be accessed from a chairlift on the stairs. The beds were firm, but comfortable. The AC is strong and easily adjustable. The staff decorated and did a tree lighting ceremony for December 1st and it was beautiful. I cannot recommend Sunscape enough for the amazing service, good food, and spacious suites. Oh - a bonus is you don't have to book any of your meals for any of the restaurants - you just line up! On my last fully day, the concierge called my room to make sure everything has been good and if I needed anything. WiFi is a bit iffy at times, but generally, worked great.

Great resort with good food and drink. Staff are fantastic and very accommodating.
Had an issue with our room A/C not working, issue was resolved within an hour however did require a bit of 'pushing along' to get it resolved. Drinks were great, food was surprisingly quite good.
Buffet restaurant changes daily and includes a nice diverse range of options. Caribbean/dominican food is quite good!
Being someone that enjoys a wide range of cuisine from different calibers of restaurants, Sunscape does a pretty good job with their restaurants. While not all comparable to Mtl, Canada, the food remains quite good. Had every seafood/fish platter with no concerns.

Would definitely consider going again.

The staff and service here are absolutely incredible!! Carlos un the sun club is always wonderful. The lovely lady serving the best coffee in the cafe is SO sweet and such a joy. Lobby lounge servers were wonderful too! Everybody is so kind and helpful! The staff are what makes this our favorite resort in Puerto Plata. Admit the resort itself is a bit older and some of the beds seriously need replacement, but everything if functional, spacious and exceptionally clean! The food lacks badly unfortunately (except breakfast with Carlos- that was always tasty!). Breakfast and lunch buffet and restaurant options Need better quality and more flavour. It is great that there is always somewhere open to get a meal, drink or coffee though!! Beach is awesome with soft sand and no rocks! Just a moments walk away. Have been here 6 times and planning to go again in December with entire family to renew our vows!

Everything was good and nice only thing is on weekends when the locals comes it disrespect full cause no foods left in buffet no plates and they pass the line to go everywhere bars restaurants pools no pleasant

Loved this place so much. I went with my 1 year old who enjoyed so much as well. Always something fun to do around here. The staff were beyond amazing as well. Always provided us with anything we needed for our 1 year old. The only downside is there is no wifi in the room but it’s good as it disconnects you from the social world for a couple of days. It’s been over a month I visited and I still think of this place. Miss it so much. Would definitely recommend to anyone who is visiting Puerto Plata. Will definitely go back here.
