Even if you're not Christian or not religious at all, you can't help but be in awe of the history places like these hold. And even more, of the architects and especially the workers who have created these buildings without modern technology. And it's still here. The city of Hildesheim luckily left some space around it, so that you can really enjoy and appreciate it in all it's beauty. Highly recommended if this is what you're interested in.

It was closed to public when I visited but the architecture is also worth admiring from the outside.

This Church is entrance free. Very impressive paintings inside. The Woman in the information is very friendly. It feels so empty inside but in every corner are medieval art works. They have brochure, for each important Artwork, very good description.

Rarely do you find Byzantine style architecture in Europe north of Bulgaria or Italy. This is just as magnificent as what can be seen in Trier. The splendid painted wood ceiling was removed for safekeeping before the building was heavily damaged in the Second World War and rebuilt.

The UNESCO-listed St Michael's Church was built in 1010-31 in Romanesque style. It was heavily damaged in an air raid in 1945 and restored during 1950-57.
