They were created in the 15th century and have survived to this day, having survived damage during the WW2 and several reconstructions
The facade of the clock is very beautiful and unusual. It looks interesting that the religious figures were replaced by workers and collective farmers. This watch looks very Soviet, but causes delight and a desire to consider all the small details and spend some time absorbing the beauty of it

Going full tourist! Olomouc Astronomical Clock but instead of a religious themed calendar and figures, you get communistic themes.

The Holy Trinity Column is a must see. Take a little trip from Prague or (Praha) as the locals say, to Olomouc. Trust me you will never want to leave. Sit down and have yourself a beer.

Interesting clock tower. It follows the days of the year and it includes all the names available to Czech people. So you'll see the name days aligned on the clock.
There is obvious communist influence in how it was remodeled, and I heard this clock used to be much more beautiful, but now there is definitely communist tones to it like the images of the working class or scientists. But this adds to history of the clock since it is a reminder of what happened during the occupation.

Olomouc city centre is just hidden germ. Full of history and Christianity. Not crowded. Prices very reasonable. Plenty of restaurants, shops, cafe etc.

Fascinating clock, with a communist take on the theme- search for the clock on YouTube to get the story before you go. When I was there the full mechanism didn't seem to be in play when the hour changed, so was disappointed after waiting to see it. However, the large Christmas market was an excellent distraction!

Very historical, portrays the months of the year with communist art as well as shows whose name day it is each day. The clock is also fully functional and in the heart of Olomouc, easy to get around from there and to there.

Much more recommendable that the Praha one because here in Olomouc there are less people than in the capital city. Also there is a lot of nice shops in the square
