Excursions to Comandancia de la Plata and Pico Turquino.Sierra Maestra, Granma, Cuba

Anley, the owner of Bayamo Travel Agent, organized a 10-day "Ruta de la Revolución" hike. This trek follows the footsteps of the original revolutionaries from Playa las Coloradas, where Fidel and his troops landed on ship Granma from Mexico, all the way to la Comandancia, the revolutionary headquarters. We also did the optional extension over the top of Pico Turquino, the highest mountain in Cuba. You stay in very simple houses of local farmers and get to experience the real Cuba, far away from the tourist beaches. Everything was perfectly organized and our guide Leonel was fantastic. Very highly recommended! You will not regret booking either this long trek or something shorter with Anley. PS: The owner Anley speaks perfect English, but the guide Leonel speaks only Spanish.

We did the tour to the rebells camp of Fidel Castro and were absoultely fascinated about it. Anley is a very open minded and kind guy. He picked us up from our casa on point and shared a lot of input of the cuban life with us. The first stop was at his own farm in the middle of the hills with a great view around. We got some nice and fresh brewed cuban coffee, before we took the car to our starting point to the Comandancia de la Plata. Our tour guide was a very smart guy, he spoke french, english and spanish fluend. In summary, during our trip through hole cuba, the tour was one of our highlights. The nature is beautiful and the tour was also very interesting. Go for it with Anley, you won't regret it!

My girfriend and I did the Pico Turquino 2 day hike. It was a awesome adventure with a very good guide. The hike is demanding but you can take your time. We had a overnight stay in a camp on the hills and it was a awesome place with very good food. On the next day the hike is beautiful and we had a break with swimming in the river.
After the tour we had one of the best food in cuba with the family and friends of the tour organizer. After that he showed us his house with animals and a fantastic and he showed us the real cuba.

This past February my husband and I hiked La Ruta de La Revolución with a Pico Turquino extension, organized and guided by Bayamo Travel Agent. This hike was the absolute highlight of our stay in Cuba and we highly recommend this hike to anyone interested in long distance hiking (9 days, approximately 200 kms since we made a side trip), history, culture and daily rural life. The hike gives you a unique insight into the real Cuba and Leonel, our enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide, never tired of answering our many questions. Since we hiked quite some days together, it felt like we were walking with a friend and we had a lot of fun together.
It is unforgettable to walk in a non-touristic part of Cuba (only at the Comandancia de la Plata did we see some tourists), walk through tiny villages, sleep at farmer’s houses, share meals and soak up the history and culture of this beautiful, undiscovered part of Cuba. The route follows mostly dirt roads but since there’s hardly any traffic, it’s no problem at all and highly enjoyable to see the horse-carts, and occasionally the local buses and tractors, passing by. Accommodation and food are mostly basic, but the hospitality and friendliness of the hosts make up for anything you might lack. If you have some days to spare, a little bit of money, really want to travel off the beaten track and discover the real Cuba, this is the hike for you!
PS We were checked various times by police on the way and would not have been allowed to continue without a guide.

My friends and I had a wonderful time exploring eastern and south-eastern Cuba with Anley, the man behind Bayamo Travel Agent. He is also the right person to know if you want to explore the Sierra Meastra mountain range, as he will make sure your excursion also include authentic experiences off the beaten tourist tracks. Definitely ask him about Manuel, who will roast and brew fresh coffee for you. Anley's sincere and friendly personality, coupled with his very good english, make him an ideal partner for your excursions and travel needs.

I've got nothing but good things to say about this company! They are located right in front of the busstation in Bayamo. I e-mailed them because we would arrive after closing time and only had one day to do a tour, but they sent someone to pick us up at the busstation to give us the information we needed. They responded quickly per e-mail as well. And when our bus out of Bayamo was delayed for 5 hours, they arranged another bus for the four of us. And most importantly: the comandancia de la plata tour was good, our guide Miguel spoke English very well and even had a book with old photos with him, to show us what it used to be like. I'm happy I chose to book with this company and would recommend it to anyone! Cheers

Good choice if you wish to travel in the eastern Cuba. Updated tourist info and fluent English spoken. The team there awesome, Anley, Alex, Maisel and Carlos friendly people and full of knowledge. Please check ID to avoid impersonators and high prices. Visit them if you want to join more people and get a discount.

Very usefull company. They organized my trip in the easterncuba, I was able to meet other travelers and make trip nicier and cheaper

Gli organizzatori sono molto gentili e disponibili, però effettivamente si appoggiano all'agenzia Ecotour e quindi forniscono solo il servizio taxi che è organizzabile anche privatamente a prezzi più bassi potendo scegliere mezzi nuovi e più confortevoli rispetto ai loro. In questo modo forse si riesce a risparmiare 15 euro a persona. Se invece non avete voglia di sbattervi potete usufruire del loro servizio o contattare direttamente Ecotour. Non hanno un ufficio e non accettano pagamenti con carta. Il biglietto per l entrata alla Comandancia é di 57 euro che si può pagare con carta a Parco e comprende il fuoristrada, un'ottima guida statale e lo spuntino.

We booked the "tour" from Bayamo to the Comandancia de la plata and can not recommend it (the hiking up there and the rebel camp is great though).
The tour should have included stops for pictures during the drive to the Sierra Maestra and also a stop at a coffee farm where we would have learned about the process of making coffee, but neither was offered. As there was no guide with us during the drive we did not have a chance to ask any questions about the nature or anything else...
Starting the hike from Santo Domingo, we were accompanied by a guide of the National Park, which is included in the entrance anyways. Moreover we were told that there would be the possibility of an additional optional walk to the radio station in the camp, which was not given to us...

So basically, the "tour" was just a Taxi service to Santo Domingo, which would have been a lot cheaper if we would have organized it through our casa particular.
