We stayed 2 nights at Tortuguero Laguna Lodge and we liked the colonial style of the room units. We stayed in room 38 which was comfortable and close to a swimming-pool and the restaurants. We had all our meals at the complex and we liked the choices of food at the buffets. We loved the location of Laguna Lodge between the canal and the Caribbean sea and it was very pleasant to be in the swimming-pool or to walk in the complex and see and hear a variety of birds and animals. During our stay, we visited the canals of the National Park with Cesar and we had a fantastic time. Cesar was excellent and thanks to him, we saw a large variety of birds, monkeys, alligators and other animals we would not have spotted. We also visited Totuguero village and that was also interesting.

This hotel is a small ecosystem itself. You can see lots of animals and birds without leaving the place. It has direct access to the beach, nice pools and the rooms and restaurant are also good. Very recommended!!

Laguna Lodge is in a beautiful setting by the Caribbean coast, seconds from the beach, and right on the river. The service was super friendly - huge shout out to our tour guide, Sebas, who was pure joy from the moment we were picked up, until we we left Tortuguero! Brilliant guide who was also hilarious, and spoke excellent English.

Tortuguero is very remote, and only accessible via boat, so it wasn't the kind of place where we wanted to be left to our own devices and explore, but we had excursions already arranged and so in any down time we had we spent in the pool or wandering around the beach. The excursion to Torteguero village was lovely and chilled, and our tour into the national park on the boat was a real highlight of the holiday - seeing animals and seeing the peaceful rainforest through the little canals was spectacular.

The food was really great - we enjoyed the typical Costa Rican breakfasts (gallo pinto, eggs and plantain), and they did some incredible fresh mini tortillas and frijoles in the evenings which were so delicious. Our room was quaint, clean and simple. It had a lovely porch with chairs, although we couldn't stay out in the evenings because the mosquitos were everywhere.
All in all I'd recommend Laguna Lodge :)

Breathtaking property off the beaten path in Tortuguero. Wake up to sounds of wildlife every morning. Amazing pool onsite. Port for tours and water taxis. Tours provided onsite are phenomenal. Must try kayak tour that goes deep into jungle canals and exposes you to unbelievable wildlife. Food on the property was amazing as well.

We stayed here two nights. Understand this establishment can only be reached by boat. Our trip was 90 minutes or so each way. Very much a remote lodge. No a/c, but the ceiling fan did the trick. Internet did not reach the back of the property but was strong toward the front. The property sits facing a river (the area's main source of transportation) and backs up to the Carribean Sea. The grounds are gorgeous with plant life abounding as well as birds most everywhere. All meals are served buffet style, and it changes daily. For a buffet, we found the food to be more than adequate and certainly plentiful.
An all-around great experience

Great food with LOTS of choices every day and great variety. Rooms were nice with fans to keep you cool. Lots of activities to do and many different animals to see on the boats and in the beautiful gardens. You can walk to town or book a boat their. Easy to see turtles but have to pay lots of money for a seemingly horrible experience for the laying turtle. Tours and the guides were amazing, friendly and very knowledgeable. Two decent sized pools which were very clean and had a nice a bar with great cocktails and nice bartenders.

If you want to truly enjoy the scenery and history - this is a great place. There is no TV and barely has wifi but that is not a negative - I think it's a way for you to just soak in what's around you, to relax and let go. There's a bar, swimming pool, a great hall for eating - buffet style. It's not crowded, the rooms are clean and people are friendly. Truly a great get away!

Stayed there for 2 nights. Service was very good, top information during the bus and boat ride and while we were there. Clean rooms (no A/C) and well maintained surroundings. Staff was very helpful and food was delicious. Organized trips were great. Overall very nice experience!

Really fantastic stay here as part of a Costa Rica tour. Access is by boat only as there are no roads, though you can fly to a small nearby airport and get a boat to the hotel. Our trip in was along rainforest channels and we saw lots of wildlife. Hotel rooms are basic with fans but no air con. Comfortable bed, weak but warm shower, nice swimming pools and a restaurant overlooking the river. Food varied between basic and good; little choice for dinner but good flavours and portions. All the staff were helpful and pleasant.
Optional trips to see rainforest wildlife, turtles and more. Fab place, loved it!

Booked as part of a tour, it’s nice, well organized and situated between the beach and lagoon. Our room was clean and comfortable even with just a fan. The food was simple, delicious and they were great about telling me what was safe for me to eat - GF/Lactose Free. I did have to bring my own alternative milk for coffee. Staff and tour guides were great :)

My Room: the rooms lack air conditioning, but do have wall mounted indoor fans and most importantly SCREENS! You can have fresh air flow through your room without worrying about mosquitos or other flying insects getting inside. A keyed safe is included. Chairs are placed just outside your door with a shaded overhang to protect you from the sun and rain. Sorry, no TV inside the rooms, but I found the WiFi signal to be strong.
Note -- the resort has installed solar heated water systems on some cabin buildings; it really works - the water was hot!

The Buffets: the food was included and very good. At all meals salad or fresh cut fruit were available at a couple small stations. In addition to the dinner served in the main buffet line, another station offered local cuisine or pasta as an alternative. Coffee, tea, juice and filtered water were provided. My only complaint was the desserts, which were offered in tiny proportions. However, you can go back and get a second helping - it is an all you can eat setting.

Tours: The open boat excursions to view the wildlife were the best part, especially given the guides spoke English and were very knowledgeable.

Of all the places (4) we stayed in in Costa rica this was my favourite, not the highest spec, not the easiest access, but the best.

The hotel is only accesably by ferry boat, its on a peninsula by a hardly used tiny airport (airfield really and thatx worth exploring as gates are open) there is a tiny town a short walk away with cafes and bars. A turtle museum, the night turtle trips the river safaris. If you were minded to grumble you could say your isolated here though.

The food was very good, huge and varied buffet selection for lunch and breakfast etc..

Grounds were excellent, your right on the beach and jogging one morning (after 6am) I came across a turtle as she was finishing laying her egg, wd saw huge iguanas resting on the lawn, there were 2 pools, hammocs and beautiful gardens and outside bars.

The rooms were all wooden on stilts. As a result , ultimately, you could hear next door and there is no air con just a fan..

It wasn't perfect but it was lovely, friendly, great ambience and great views over the river at breakfast and dinner.

We had a great time here (2 nights) and if you know what to expect you will, too! It is a beautifully situated hotel between a lagoon and the sea. It is well taken care of and we enjoyed relaxing in hammocks and the pool. The service was good, as was the food, even though the selection is not big. But that’s understandable as everything needs to be brought by boat. All rooms and houses are quite “open” (no glass windows but nets), so make sure to check for any wildlife before you use towels or the bed sheets. If it rains it can certainly be loud during the night but it didn’t bother us as it added to the experience. The hotel offers great tours and the arrival by boat is already exciting. You should know that you can neither swim in the sea nor in the lagoon - unless you want to fight with dangerous currents, barracudas or crocodiles :)

I had the pleasure of staying at this beautiful property for 2 nights. The surroundings are absolutely breathtaking. The staff were friendly and kind. Food was 10/10 too.

The room itself was basic and wifi wasn’t very strong, but I didn’t mind. It was lovely to connect with nature.

Thank you all for a great stay, I look forward to returning 👍

Beautiful views, ideal location, wonderful helpful staff and amazing food! Even as a solo traveller, I never felt left out, forgotten and even when I was the only one to book kayaking, I had a one-to-one trip with the guide, who was great and informative. Stay was not far off perfect 👌

Nice staff, the kayak tour was amazing. We also had a great experience on the awakening tour. Bring bug repellent, lots of mosquitos in the evening, as you would expect in the location.

I went in June, 2016..OK first off, you must realize you are in a national park that has zero cars and everyone gets around by boat. It takes 45 minutes from when your bus/shuttle drops you off to get to this resort by boat. So you are literally in the rain forest and right next to the ocean. Thus it is hot and humid. Very humid!!! The rooms have screens on all the windows and the bathroom and shower are decent. No bugs in the room. Also no air-conditioning only a fan major drawback but very typical out here. Jump in the shower to cool off with cold water or jump in the two beautiful swimming pools they have. The service was a 10--Danny was our tour guide and did an outstanding job throughout the three day stay-- he went on every tour with us and spoke English perfectly. Each meal that everyone has to pay for is buffet style--very great options and very delicious..water is ok to drink and they serve with ice.. The tours from kayaking, to canal trips, to going to the little town they have (1,700 people live here) incredible experience once in a lifetime. Everything was great, I would've loved to have air-conditioning in my room.
