El Zota Biological Field Station

Absolutely amazing 👏 Hinitor and his family are the most welcoming and helpfull people. We stayed there for 2 nights in a lovely cabin with view to the lake. The area a very nice and feels like being home. Its outside the bearing track and is an authentic nature experience where there are space for great animal experiences and relaxation. We went for the informative walk which where very learning, the boat tour where we spotted multiple animals and the night walk. The next day we choose to see the sunrise which was absolutely amazing. If you are in Costa rica and love nature and animals you should for sure go!

Me and my girlfriend had a fantastic stay. The family that owns the place really make you feel at home. the place is located in a fantastic natural area, where it is possible to see many different monkeys, birds, frogs, felines and much more. Our guide Hiner gave us some fantastic tours and provided a lot of knowledge about nature, the country's history and much more. Rooms are in very good condition and the food is delicious. Can only recommend stopping by Hine and family. Use Google Maps to find your way, Waze sends you on a bit of an excursion.

My husband and I enjoy wildlife photography. We decided to visit El Zota Biological Field Station.
Our experience was very pleasant. It took us about 3 hours and half from San Jose using Google Maps.
El Zota belongs to the Ramirez Family. Everyone there is highly committed to conservation and love for nature. This is apparent by the decision of Hiner’s father to stop all logging 30+ years ago and protect this forest.
The entire service was outstanding. Including the rooms and the dining area. However, the best service was provided by Hiner who was our guide, manager and son of the owners. He is very educated regarding plants, animals and insects. He is very patient and informative with the entire property, including spotting animals.
We did daily hikes, the view point, the lake, but our favorite part was the nocturnal hikes where we were able to spot a lot of animals. He took excellent care us. His English is perfect. In addition, he also has a YouTube channel, which is amazing.
This place is out of the most common tourist places. So you can really enjoy yourself with the fauna and the flora.
We highly recommend El Zota for your next adventure!

We had a fastastic stay here. The host were the best. If you don't need a lot of luxery you have everything you need. A clean and big cabin, a wonderfull surrounding in the nature and great food. Well recommended!

More wildlife in one day than all of most other trips to Costa Rica. The staff are wonderful and kind and really knowledgeable about the surrounding environment. The rooms clean and really comfortable.

Ein wunderbarer Ort abseits vom Tourismus. Es war unser Einstieg in unser Costa Rica Urlaub und es hätte nicht besser starten können. Hier kann man super entschleunigen und die Natur geniessen.
Heiner und seine Eltern sind sehr gastfreundlich und hilfsbereit. Es wurde für uns sehr fein gekocht. Die Touren mit Heiner waren sehr spannend und informativ und die Geschichte hinter El Zota eindrücklich.
Die Zimmer waren sehr sauber und schön, man ist mitten im Regenwald.
Sehr empfehlenswert!

El camino para cualquier tipo de vehículo por la ruta Nacional 247 , pasando por pueblo Las Palmitas. Ojo muy importante solo con Google maps, NO usar Waze porque los pierde no hay internet de camino … y me recibieron con un fresco de Linaza muy bueno.

Una zona espectacular, llena de naturaleza y por supuesto gran variedad de aves. Su laguna y quiosco son mágicos, para vivir una experiencia tranquila y llena de paz. Las habitaciones son amplias y para todo tipo de ocasión (familiar, pareja, grupos). Las comidas deliciosas y una decoración asombrosa.

El sitio es super hermoso sin embargo es muy difícil conseguir señal en ese lugar.
Solo hay WiFi en un lugar.
Es un sitio totalmente para la relajación y convivencia de naturaleza .
El único inconveniente es necesario llevar repelente para todos aquellos insectos molestos, en las habitaciones no hay problema porque cuenta con mosquitero.

Que lugar maravilloso este. Solo lamento no haber estado ahí más tiempo. La comida espectacular, la atención muy cálida, la noche fue como dormir en medio del busqué, con la lluvia y la fauna arrullandome. Super romántico si van en ese ride.

Un lugar adecuado para pasar el rato, para conectar con la naturaleza y despejar la mente de la ciudad, puedes encontrar fauna y flora variada

unglaublich schönes Hideaway mit sehr charmanten Zimmer und sehr freundlicher Bewirtung durch die Familie. Hatten am Nachmittag und am Abend im Dunkeln eine tolle Führung und hatten mehr Tiere als in den Nationalparks gesehen und unglaublich viel gelernt.

Precioso lugar para ir a descansar de la ciudad, recargar energías y estar en armonía con la naturaleza! 💚🐆

Ein Paradies!
Wir haben hier zwei Nächte und drei Tage verbracht und sind mehr als dankbar für diese Zeit. Hiner und seine Familie sind unglaublich freundlich und hilfsbereit - an jeder Ecke des Grundstücks sieht man die Liebe und die Leidenschaft für die Natur. Wir haben viel entdeckt, Hiner hat uns alles erklärt und an seiner Freude für die Natur und die Tiere teilhaben lassen. Die Zimmer sind sauber, wunderschön und gemütlich. Auch das Essen ist immer lecker und frisch zubereitet gewesen!
Fazit: Ein Ort, den man unbedingt besuchen muss! Aus ganzem Herzen empfehlen wir El Zota - das Paradies am Ende der Straße. Danke für alles!!

Un lugar especial para descansar y tener contacto con la naturaleza. A menos de 3 horas de San José, con habitaciones para parejas, familia o grupos y la comida es muy buena. Tiene actividades como trekking por bosque primario y secundario, trapiche, paseos en bote por lagunas con gran cantidad de aves y también se puede tomar un tour por el río Colorado hasta Barra del Colorado. La atención de sus propietarios es muy especial. Esperamos volver pronto.
Consejo: la mejor ruta es desde Guápiles hacia Cariari y de ahí a las Palmitas (vía
247). No tomen la ruta por Ticabán ya que es más larga y el camino muy solitario

Las cabinas están muy bien arregladas. Se reinventan luego de la pandemia, ya que los estudiantes no asisten. La opción de lugar de descanso y recreación natural está muy bien. La comida del restaurante estaba deliciosa. Un lugar para desconectarse.
