Absolutely amazing display of art both old and modern in this very unpretentious building. A must see but check the opening times as they are limited and when we visited armed soldiers were closing off streets but access was permitted if you explained you wanted to go to the museum. My only complaint would be that none of the descriptive and detailed texts were available in an English version.

Gorgeous! The current indigenous exhibition was also very interesting. Free for over 60's 😉.

Ask the police outside the barricades for permission to get to the front door of the museum. Look for the big banners hanging outside indicating the museum. The area is next to government buildings hence the higher security.

Enjoy the beautiful ceiling architecture and altar. There are some nice co-exhibits of recent art in the exhibit area to the right after entering. This section was very good, in my opinion.

Some of the other modern art seems out of place when placed together with the older artwork of the building. Maybe the themes didnt quite compliment the existing architecture.

Entry price COP 4,000 in 2022 February.

Remnants of the 17th-century Poor Clares’ Church and Convent. A very well preserved sanctuary for the rediscovery of colonial-era Baroque architecture and art.

Like most churches built during this period, it is a place in which one’s eyes can’t find focus since the moment you step foot in the 140-art-pieces museum, formerly dedicated to enclosed nuns.

Don’t miss the murals and the 950 hand-carved, gold-foiled wooden flowers covering the ceiling.

This museum is one of my favorite places in the city and is usually not crowded, the time necessary for enjoying the place will vary based on your appreciation for detail, but overall is a small building convenient for short and insightful visits.

A magnificent place, rich with spiritual art and history on every square centimeter, where you can also find grand traveling exhibitions by artists like Diana Gamboa. A must-see if you travel to Bogotá.

This small museum might be an easy miss if you just walk by, but make no mistake, it's jam packed full of beautiful art.

You'll find modern and very old art here, both of exquisite quality and state of conservation.

Entrance fee is Cop 4000 for locals and foreigners

Was a damn fine visit. The blending on indigenous information within was surprising and memorably unique. Favorite church visited in Bogota.

The Museum of the Church Santa Clara should be on every list of city tours to Bogota. Since it is not an active church, you may take a lot of time to check out this fine detailed museum opposite the Presidential Palace in Bogota. Love tge museum, a bunch of electronic displays keeps you cery well informed on your self-paced tour.

Safety measures in this area may restrict access to the site, so make sure there is no political demonstration going on when you plan a visit.

It’s a religious museum where the tours offer plenty of information about the way nuns lived at the time. The art in the ceiling is breathtaking. They have a marvelous souvenir shop.

The Museo Santa Clara is located in the historic centre of Bogota and has as its headquarters a former Clarian church, a unique standing fragment from what was the Royal Convent of Santa Clara. This museum offers an immersion in the convent culture of the 17th and 18th centuries through its architecture and the varied collection of altarpieces, paintings, sculptures, and murals. It is accompanied by Johanna of St. Stephen, an interactive guide to the museum. With her, and thanks to various touch screens, visitors get to visit the crypt, the bell tower and the vaulted ceiling, as well as seeing the paintings that are mounted in the highest areas of the museum preserving the spatial configuration of the colonial period.
The enjoyment and knowledge of the colonial heritage enter into dialogue with the temporary exhibitions of contemporary art that the museum opens annually in order to update the perspective on the past according to artistic interpretations from the present.

Wonderful small museum with several electronic displays in English. There is not a whole lot to see, but it is definitely worth it to go. The ceiling is pretty neat.
