Food Basics

Clean store, modern Food Basics, great store layout, affordable prices for families, family friendly and insightful helpful staff. I am going to share my experience at this location over several visits. Me and my wife have both gone here several times and we have both gone individually. It doesn't matter we have had great experiences regardless of who goes or how we go individually or together. We will typically fill a cart and use self checkout. The first time we went an employee (Margaret) in self-checkout told my wife how beautiful she looks while we were cashing out (When we experienced racism in BC and in the Wal-Mart here in Pickering it felt good to see my wife given respect by an employee). We have been frequent customers because of the respectful treatment me and my wife feel we have been treated with while customers here. Me and my wife have had several conversations about how we were treated and look forward to going. My last visit here is the main reason for this review. When I was cashing out I was trying to hit skip bagging because of the weight scale but it kept calling an employee over. Margaret took the time to explain to me how the self checkouts work, how the weight scale works and gave me helpful insight to help save me time and expedite my shopping experience because at the end of the day time is our most valuable resource in life and by patiently taking the time to explain its function I will be faster scanning things when I go and I have more quality time to spend with my family. Margaret at the same time as uplifting my wife she also increased my awareness of how self-checkouts function saving me time in the future. What more can you ask of an employee. Their employee (Margaret) is why me and my wife look forward to shopping here for our family. When you boil it down and simplify our society not much separates these grocery stores but the content of their employees character is worth more to me and my family than any perceived "saving" elsewhere. The value in peace of mind while buying the necessities of life is priceless and I want to thank this location and in specifically Margaret for giving me and my wife this.

P.S. They have little carts for kids called "Customer in Training" which is great for the kids.

A quality store, fully stocked, great produce, good prices and the staff all very friendly and always professional. The staff / management ensure that the pandemic safety guidelines are followed. Every visit to this store for groceries is a good experience. Bravo to the Mgt.p

Food basics has the best prices on frozen desserts than any other place and has the same brands. And charges 45% less! Drumsticks, Hagen Das etc only 4.99 I'm telling you. No one else has these prices Locked in. I usually go to 304 places when it comes to my groceries and this is where I come for ice creams.

I really enjoy this food basics. It's a little small but seems to have everything you really need. The produce is good and the staff are friendly. There is no deli, bakery, or on site butcher. They also do not price match but generally the prices are quite competitive to make up for it.

Staff have all been genuinely nice

The prices are just right and you have varieties of food items. I love shopping at Food Basics Pickering, Ontario.

I came into the store this morning to grab a few things, thinking it was only going to be the same experience as every other store!

I was greated by a wonderful lady “ Carol” who was all smiles, every polite, asked me if I found everything ok! We got into joking and laughing. Thank you Carol for a wonderful experience, a great start to my day! Carol knows what customer service means!

The young people you have working on customer service, doesn’t know what customer service means! They look at you as if to say “ you’re bothering me” which bothers me quite a bit honestly! This trip was going to be my last trip into your store because of it!

Thank you to Carol she saved a customer! I will be back, I will only go through when Carol is working!

Clean and friendly Staff out there .

Very clean and organized grocery store. Never have I had a poor customer experience in this location. The staff are wonderful. I actually enjoy shopping in this location. Keep up the amazing work FB Pickering!!!!!

What a great store. Very friendly staff and all cashier stations were open. I grew tired of my regular store and tired this store for the first time. I am so happy that I chose to try this store. Great job the management team is doing here to have so many staff on hand. And the single line moved quickly.

This grocery store is clean, friendly staff, not crowded, perfect size to get everything you need quickly, and has really fresh produce. And all this with discount grocery prices!

Always clean, always stocked. All staff are very pleasant and helpful and very rarely are there lineups at the cashout. There are also the cutest carts that are built like cars to put your toddler into. It entertains my child while I shop.
I just wish Good Basics didn't close at 8pm every day of the week, but now that I know I make sure to plan accordingly.

Very spacious and clean with reasonable prices ..

Aisles can get super crowded but they do a good job maintaining the store and the employees are very nice. No complaints.
I would say they best time to go (if weekend groceries is your thing) is just before lunchtime, like 9-11am.

Affordable groceries. They stock a lot of items for our daily needs. I usually buy rice and coffee in here. Also fruits and vegetables. Their meat and chicken also reasonably priced. Watch for their weekly sale, it's a good bargain. They also sell cooking oil on sale regularly. The place is clean and neat.

Got a shopping cart, wiped the handle with wipes provided at the entrance, just in case! Fresh fruit and vegetables nicely laid out, all aisles had shelves that were neatly stocked with merchandise and of course friendly, helpful staff on hand to assist, even walking you over to the product. Fast checkout and you're on your way. They've added a self-checkout section which makes it faster if you've got just a few items, plus there's a staff member present if you need help with items that are not barcoded. Masks are now optional but the plexiglass barriers are still up at the checkout lanes with cashier's.

I was very pleased to see how clean and organized the store was. I didnt have my daughter with me on this trip, but I know she will be happy to shop with mama next time with her shopper in training cart!!!! Or even the tractor cart!!!! I will definitely be back again. Such a large selection of different products, and the ni sugar added and lower salt option too!

Cleaaaaaaaaan. Nice and bright. Prices are good with a good amount of deals if you know how to shop. Staff is nice and there wasn't a lot of people because this is newly opened. So I plan to enjoy this before it gets more popular among locals.
