I had an excellent experience at the Consulate General of The Republic of Croatia in Mississauga.The male agent with long hair who helped me, was friendly and efficient ensuring a smooth and quick application process. Securing an appointment was hassle-free, and the consulate's promptness in reviewing and approving my visa was impressive. I highly recommend their exceptional service to anyone in need of visa assistance. I’m so excited to explore Croatia. 😍

Extremely professional!

Just some tips:

1. There's usually lots of free parking available, so you should be fine there.
2. The door is always closed, so buzz in when it is your time.
3. All the bathrooms in the complex are locked, even at ground level. The consulate will give you a key if you ask, but that's annoying because of Point 2, so just find somewhere else to go beforehand,. If you're early for the first appointment of the day, you might find yourself stressing mid-appointment like my sibling.
4. Don't worry if your Croatian isn't perfect, their English is excellent and respected. The office is efficient, so faster for everyone to use the language you're most familiar with rather than create confusion with your other language.
5. Always do your research. If you have a question: ASK! Lots of people have issues with Canadian names not matching Croatian birth names, so do your best to get name changes legalized in Croatia at your first chance. It seems Canada let you put down any name when one immigrated and this causes problems (e.g. Tomislav --->Tommy and such).
6. They're really working for you. Be nice and patient. If they seem very particular about something, it's because they're worried the next step of the process could reject your application and that wastes everyone's time (see #5 above)
7. They have a metal detector, so leave your tools of independence at home, but cell phones, purses and such are fine.
8. Global Affairs Canada sucks to deal with, and having to pay the Embassy of Croatia in Ottawa for legalization is unfortunate. Write your MP and ask Canada to sign the Hague "Apostille Convention" which would save everyone time on authenticating documents
9. If you need documents notarized before forwarding to Global Affairs Canada, I highly recommend Mr. Mario Delgado at Downtown Notary in Toronto. He's the best.
10. If you need English documents translated into Croatian, Aranka at Euro Language Services is the best and close by. She knows her stuff and is wonderful. I wish I could spend longer with her to go over our translations, but I was in a rush.
11. The Croatian side of the website has a lot more info than the English side, so browse on the Croatian side and use your browser's translate to read it in English if necessary.

Decent place. Tight working hours make it a bit difficult to find time to get there. Although, once I was able to get there I had no complications. Just make sure to make an appointment by email.

[Not related to Consulate] Also, there is a decent meat/deli place within the same plaza, not mentioned on Google maps, that sells decent roasted pork (it's not advertised anywhere, just need to ask for it).

I just did my passport renewal, the lady that works at the front desk was so helpful and super friendly. The process was very simple, and I made an appointment by e-mail, with a fast response time to e-mail. People like this should work in a consular office to represent the country in best way. #croatia 🇭🇷

It's very sad I have to get to Canada to get the best customer experience by a Croatian government employee. The man working there was absolutely wonderful, took his time and explained all about my case in details ..and I thank him for that. He single-handedly made my day.

Few years back when I was renewing my passport after many years not using it...I thought it would be so difficult but the
Staff was so friendly n helpful..it was great and they got my papers back so fast before my flight. Amazing !!!

Just to let you all know that we have tried getting visas from different Consulate because my mom is not Canadian, Consul Natalija Bukovec of Croatia Consulate is the most accommodating Consul Ive ever met. Thank you Ms. Natalija. More power to you Ms. Natalija!!
