Drifters Motel & Restaurant

We stayed in the jacuzzi suite and are sad we were only here for one night. Everything about this room was lovely and just plain cute & cozy. The bed was incredibly comfortable, the furniture in the sitting area was marvelous, and there’s a pretty decent kitchenette with stove-top that we didn’t use. The place was furnished so wonderfully that it left us wanting to spend a whole week here. My husband went down to the restaurant to bring our dinner up here—he found the staff to be very friendly and enjoyed hearing about what life is like in Terrace Bay. While booking, we didn’t know what to expect for location in proximity to everything else, but it’s all RIGHT HERE. We have the lighthouse across from our room, a strip of shops attached, and a view of Lake Superior out another of our windows. Looking forward to staying here again!

Very clean rooms, coffee & donuts, muffins on-site with a restaurant 😋 great food, best place to stop, Esso station is on site for gas. Highly recommend 👌 👍

Highly recommend the motel! Our truck broke down at their gas station when we were driving across Canada and we were lucky enough to get their last room. I'm never sure about motels but this was by far the nicest room we stayed in out of our 14+ stays during our trip. The room was gorgeous! Very comfortable bed, great layout, fantastic jacuzzi. The best part, though, was the service... the manager got her mechanic friend to come look at the truck for free and then gave us a ride to buy the parts we needed without asking for anything in return. Very appreciated! I'm a light sleeper so the light shining in from the gas station at night did bother me a tiny bit, but my spouse and son slept right through, and I would definitely stay here again if I had the chance!

We celebrated our wedding anniversary here as we travelled across Canada. I must say I was thoroughly impressed with this establishment. We took the jacuzzi suite. It was far and beyond our expectations. They were meticulous in decorating the room. Everything was very clean. We had supper and breakfast at the restaurant and it also was superb. The service in both places was excellent. Our interchanges with Karen were also very friendly and professional. The owners put a lot of pride in their business. I will be coming back here and recommending it!

This motel was superb. Their location after a long drive was perfect. We were given a newly renovated room that was spotless. The sheets were clean and crisp and everything was new!
The young lady who checked us in was lovely and very caring. Oh we’ll be back!

Restaurant review only - was a lovely breakfast on our way to Thunder Bay. Service was quick even though a number of people had been seated just before us. Food was tasty as well. Decor was excellent - recently renovated, clean and asthetically pleasing to the eye.

Hidden Gems along Highway 17 North 🚙

Every once in a while you find a really nice place to lay your head after a long day of driving. That’s the case with the Drifters Inn located in Terrace Bay Ontario. Located right off highway 17, this little motel is a great place to stay while you explore the lighthouse or the wonderful beach with its new boardwalk. And just out of town is Aguasbon Falls which is another beautiful place to stop and take a walk and take in a beautiful view.

Last spring when I was planning my annual road trip to Toronto I decided to stay in Terrace Bay instead of driving the extra hour to Marathon where I usually stopped for the night. It’s an 8 1/2 hour drive which includes stopping at a few places for bathroom breaks, food breaks, coffee breaks, or just to check out something cool along the highway. My stay last summer at the Drifters Inn was awesome.
I stayed on the top floor with a great view of Lake Superior.

It’s always great to be able to check out some new things in a new town. In Terrace Bay, you can climb up the Terrace Bay Lighthouse, you can drive down to the beach where they have a boardwalk, some wonderful chairs to sit on and of course an awesome view of Lake Superior. You can also dine right beside your motel room too ….
the restaurants that are attached to the motel are all top notch.

So next time you’re up north on your way to wherever your travels take you, make sure you check out Terrace Bay, Ontario and if you’re looking for an awesome place to stay make sure to call ahead and book your room at the Drifters Inn.

Stayed at Drifters Bldg#2 for several days in Aug while visiting family. My partner was having some mobility issues & this room was excellent, easy access, drive up to door. Clean, spacious, comfortable, bright. I would stay here again. Only negative thing was with other guests parking in front of our room which may have been due to a lot of excess vehicles from trades people working in the area.

They close early but can leave keys hidden if needed. Really appreciated as I was rolling in around 11/1130pm. The rooms were clean and nicely renovated. My only grievance was that the good available for a grab-and-go meal was pretty subpar. I should have tried ordering from the restaurant and grabbing it to go.

Great spot, clean rooms, comfy beds. Best of all, the bar/pub/tavern! Food was delicious, atmosphere was nice, staff were super fun and we met some others travelling in the area and had a great night! Awesome selection of local craft beers!

Despite being on 17, it's relatively quiet. Great rooms on the "2" side, clean and well appointed. Will 100% stay here again, no questions asked.

Ate at the restaurant passing through, delicious food and thoughtful, friendly service, would definitely recommend!

I stayed at the Drifters Motel while working in the area. The motel is very conveniently located right off Highway 17, on the north side of the highway, and has a fantastic restaurant located within the grounds.

The staff were very helpful and pleasant and checked us in within a few minutes. The room (we stayed in a "Rustic" room) was very comfortable and included a fridge, microwave and coffee maker. Wifi service was excellent, and connection speeds were better than I expected.

Just one minor issue - the bar is situated along the back of some of the rooms, and we could hear the music and activities while getting ready to turn in. It wasn't too loud, but some soundproofing would be welcome.

Room was very comfortable, close to a patio so the wife could smoke. Tough going to 2nd floor with bags if you are a little older and out of shape Restaurant had good food. Gas bar in parking lot.

Everything you need in one stop, gas station, store, restaurant, bar and hotel. The hotel is clean and very well kept, the beds are comfortable and the rooms have a nice rustic decor. The staff are helpful and polite. The store and restaurant are open early and close late. The restaurant is fantastic! They have a great menu at a reasonable price. The kitchen is very fast and the food is delicious and cooked to perfection. The wait staff are friendly and do a great job of making every visit a good one. I definitely recommend staying and eating here!

We arrived after 8:30 after a long day of driving and we’re tired and famished. The food at Drifters Restaurant was just what we needed. Fresh, hot, tasty and healthy portions. Lots of fresh veg and chicken in both the stir fry and pasta we ordered. And even though we were there just before closing, service was really quick and very friendly. Highly recommend.

Hotel room was clean, comfortable and well maintained. Bathroom had been recently renovated. Not a large room for the 3 of us (couple and 19 yr old daughter) but for a one night stay heading cross country it was perfect.

Great little spot to stay for the night - very clean rooms and cute rustic decor. Great service at check in too. We ordered from the restaurant (chose to eat in our room), I had a steak salad and my husband had a burger and fries - the fries and gravy are unreal, highly recommend.

Road trip from WPG to Mount Tremblant and back. Was one of th most comfortable places we stayed. Staff in motel, gas bar,and restaurant were super friendly and helpful. Food was amazing and the rooms were clean and very comfortable. We'll definitely be staying for a couple days during next years road trip.

A cozy, clean motel at an affordable price! Excellent and accommodating service by the staff.
