Acadian Cemetery and Chapel: A Glimpse into Clare's History

Tucked away in Clare, the Acadian Cemetery and Chapel stand as an enduring testament to the region's rich heritage. This historic site encompasses Clare's very first Acadian cemetery, where the inaugural mass was held.

Within the protective embrace of a surrounding fence, you'll find not just the resting place of early Acadian settlers but also a commemorative cairn and a charming wooden chapel dating back to 1892. Step inside this tiny church, and you'll discover a shrine dedicated to Mary, providing a serene spot for introspection.

For generations, this cemetery served as the heart of the community, a silent witness to the passage of time until its closure in 1790. Today, it remains a sacred place where history whispers softly.

Beyond the cemetery, the wild beauty of the nearby coastline unfurls. It's a landscape of untamed splendor, offering the perfect backdrop for a leisurely walk or moments of quiet reflection. Here, you can escape the rush of modern life and immerse yourself in the tranquility of the past.

In summary, the Acadian Cemetery and Chapel offer a poignant glimpse into Clare's history—a place where the stories of early settlers are etched. With its historical significance and the serene allure of the coastline, it provides visitors with a peaceful retreat and an opportunity to connect with the roots of this vibrant community.

Le Petite Chapelle is what it is called and it is just that, a small chapel. It is on an Acadian graveyard that dates back to the 1700's.
It was a nice find and place to visit and seems well taken care of for it's slightly rural location.
It appeared to me that gifts are left for Mary (there was feathers and stones etc) so I left my pocket rosary. I'm not sure if it's a thing, but I'd find a gift to leave if you are to visit, and be sure to sign the notebook!
