Niterói Contemporary Art Museum

As a fan of Oscar Niemeyer I visited for the architecture, but I was impressed by the gallery as well. Great art all around!

One of the most stunning architectural places I’ve ever seen. The backdrop of the Rio de Janeiro beach and mountains is unbelievable. The actual museum is small, with only two exhibitions, but it was thoughtfully curated. The bistro on the bottom floor was an absolute must—and included a beautiful view. It was one of the best restaurant food I’ve had during my stay, as well. Go to this place. It’s incredible.

Did not have the time to enter but I know it was cheap and reasonable as a fee (I think 20 reals). There was around 8 paintings available outside for free. You can take pictures from the beach, where you enter and underneath it (see pics). Lovely neighborhood and I felt safe! Spend some time at the beach. The cave below is only 3 - 5 meters. Not too fancy!

Amazing! But I think It is worth less pay the entry! Outside is better than inside!!! Trust me!

Beautiful Oscar Niemeyer building that it’s a must if you visit Rio.
The collection of the Museum is rather small - but the building itself and the views are AMAZING and worth the visit.
The entrance fee is around 2.5€ (cash in R$ or you can buy a ticket online there but you need an internet connection - so I recommend buying it before going, or having 12 R$).

Also getting there is fairly easy (a ferry trip from downtown - it takes 20 mins and it cost 1.5€ - also cash only 7.7 R$)
Niteroi has a nice beach and the town is pretty so you can easily spend half a day there.

Futuristic UFO designed building by famed architect situated along the coastline in Rio. It's hard to get too if you're a tourist who doesn't know the area but worth the trip.

Visiting MAC in Niterói has been in my travel bucket list for so long. Made it today and it was so worth it!

Calm and peaceful! The staff here are very friendly and helpful. The cost to enter the museum is 10 Reals for adults and 5 Reals for students and teachers. The art inside the museum is interesting to look at, I enjoyed it. There are also some nice views of Guanabara bay which would of course depend on the weather. Regardless of the weather though, if you want a chilled experience in Niteroi to spend some time, definitely visit this place.

Ever since I was a little boy I had dreamed about visiting this museum. My dad used to tell me stories about how that spaceship landed there and started exhibiting their art to the human race hahaha... it sounds silly but for a five year old that was the best story ever. I got the visit it many times and I always get mesmerised with this great architecture. The view is amazing and the museum is worth a visit as well.

Beautiful. A fine visit for family with an interactive exhibit for small children. A delightful space with marvelous views of Rio. Take the ferry. Enjoy the Bistro for a charming lunch.

Probably the best located museum in the world, plus, one of the greatest designs by Oscar Niemeyer, completed by the most amazing view of Rio de Janeiro makes the perfect and the must-must-go place in Niteroi

To be honest, the collection is definitely not worth the visit. Everything takes place in a 200m2 room and there is really nothing of interest.
The real interest of this Museum is its stunning architecture from Oscar Niemeyer (as well as the nice view of the bay) but this architecture is worth the visit.
If you go to Niteroi spend some time to see three other buildings from Niemeyer : the Teatro Popular and the Fundaçao Oscar Niemeyer.

A must vist museum which is also a viewpoint. From the renown modernist Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, this flying saucer shaped museum in the holds small exhibits of contemporary art. Notice the way its shape matches the shape of the sugarloaf. So beautiful!

I went on a Wednesday when the entry is free. It is small, so allow one hour to visit.

If you are going from Rio, you can take a bus the stops in front of the museum or the boat (R$6) from Praça XV to Niterói, then it is a walk of 25min or an Uber.

The magnificent Oscar Neumere building, built in 1996. Entrance to the museum is paid, the bag must be put in the locker, there is a toilet and water fountain. The exhibition is small. If you go down the stairs, there you will find a restaurant.

A place full of energy that is breathing on the side of the water and hosts amazing exhibitions. MARA'!

Well , it looks great outside , but the art itself... I don't know , maybe I don't understand something lol , but for me it is trash , not the art

Been wanting to see this since I was 14, finally got here as an adult. The place was closed but that was ok, I came for the architecture, architecture which is unrivalled of course. The surrounding area makes it even prettier with the beach below and islands in the background.

Museum building and views are extraordinary, not so impressive inside, but worth to go there.
