Lovely beach surrounded by lovely mountains! Waves are medium strong! Mostly for surfers! Safe place but missing washrooms! Nice clean neighborhood!

Itacotiara is a beach surrounded by pristine nature and mountains, located half an hour by car (or an hour by bus) from the center of Niteroi, a suburb of Rio de Janeiro.

Fans of water sports love to gather here and international surfing competitions are often held.

It’s better to take food and beach accessories with you – there aren’t many shops on the beach, especially compared to Rio

Best one in the area, no beach in Rio comes close to this one, as a bonus you can also climb the "Costão" rock before going to the beach (30 min climb very easy). The only downside is that eventually the waves are very strong and can be kinda dangerous if you're not used to.

Great place to enjoy the best of Rio de Janeiro, beautiful costline, hiking area nearby and chill ocean.

Beautiful beach, not very crowded, strong currents. Take some food and deinks as the bars on the beach are pricey and the offers in the menus are not very creative.

The most beautiful beach in Niterói. Just make sure not to visit on weekends when it's very hot - it gets REALLY crowded and takes away from the experience.

As a local, my favorite beach! This beach has 2 sections: a big strand of sand and bigger waves. On the other side of the rock, there's a small beach protected from the waves and perfect for a quiet dive.
It's always crowded during summer months and weekends during the rest of the year, so for a more relaxed time try go go really early in the morning.
The shore is lined by kiosks and there are a couple restaurants in the neighborhood.

One of the best beaches I've ever been to. So scenic, perfect natural wading area for kids, amazing sand and impressive waves. It's absolutely stunning and relaxing to be there.

This beach has great views, and is safer to visit because of less risk of assault. Headed to the far southern end of the beach to enjoy swimming in the rock pools. Or you can climb the massive rock at the other end by entering through the national park which is a few hundred meters up the road.

Great beach an hour's drive from downtown Rio.
