Lovely historic experience we had at Medjidi-Tabia, its the highest place in town. The fortress is one of the oldest in Europe. I recommend getting a guide. We took this option and the lady was lovely and very helpful gave us a lot of historic lessons about the fortress.
Nice views and a day to spend.

Superb location, well maintained by a trained staff. You can reach if you look on the Internet. Many location data, road signs are not. If the name of the great writer Lev Tolstoy tells you something, it's worth visiting. Interesting, amazing all the history of this location. Bravo to the authorities and those who take care of the history of the people they belong .

One of the best-preserved fortresses in Bulgaria. Recommend visiting through the spring, the combination of greenery and fortress walls looks quite magic! An interesting and joking local curator will show you the place.

It is quite difficult to reach the location by car. I had some difficulties but the employees of a nearby Shell gas station directed me on the route (the blue route în the picture attached to this review). The best route is the long one. Free parking near the location. A very well preserved fortress that must be visited if you plan to reach Silistra.
There is also a place with benches where you can relax after the walk.
The entrance fee can be paid in different currencies. The staff is friendly.

So interesting and definitely worth a visit. A local Bulgarian archeologist gave a very interesting tour around the museum. He was really knowledgeable and spoke excellent English.

A small but still a fascinating fortress due to the fact that it has been used in 7 wars including both world wars and still remains a solid, well preserved, well masked! (since it is not visible unless you are standing right in front of it), defence of the Silistra city. It is managed by the owner, Mr. Valentin himself which is so kind and patient to answer all of your questions and show his collection of weapons in the museum inside the citadel. The tour will take about an hour and a half to visit every corner of the fortress and even the undergrounds. There is a water spring and there are benches close to the artillery guns in the courtyard and some of them are partially functional in case you are wondering how it works. The cost for a family of 2+2 is 10 leva (~5 euro). Would definitely recommend to visit this site!
P.S. there are lots of turtles inhibiting that area so don't be surprised to see one walking beside you! 🐢

Open from May to October. The fortress is one of the best preserved example of the Ottoman empire. It is built in the middle of 19-th century according the plans of a Prussian officer and supervised by Colonel Krach. The guide was very good and explained us in the details the fortress history.
