Lovely hike and if you take the green line it's not too hard. We did it a day after it snowed in Sofia, so it was still all covered in snow. This made the path beautiful but also very slippery and challenging, especially when returning downhill. Make sure to wear warm clothes and appropriate shoes and bring enough water as there's no stop anywhere from the starting point till the waterfalls.

This was a challenging and wonderful hike. One needs to be in healthy condition to complete this red trail hike as there are a lot of strenuous parts (very steep), slippery sections, and parts where you need upper body strength to pull yourself up. We went with Kolyana- from Green Sofia Tours, he knew just where to take us to see the best views of Sofia and the waterfalls.

Yes this is the right spot to begin the hike to the waterfall !
It's a really nice hike, though not easy. Some parts are steep and also slippery.
The trail is marked well, all the way up.
The hike up will take about an hour or two, depending how fast you walk. Then another hour (or less) back down
A taxi from the center of Sofia here cost me about 17 lv.

Nice hike in Sofia, with easy access from the city center. Perfect for a few hours getaway. Also very safe, I did the hike by myself which is not an easy thing to do when you are a girl in a foreign country.

Great hike and very well marked!! There are two trails to follow. You can take the red trail directly to the waterfall. The green trail is also there. If you keep hiking 30 minutes or so on the green trail beyond the waterfall, there is also a great restaurant (hut). Would definitely recommend it! There is also great connection with the buses, so it is easy to reach without a car.

Nice waterfall, the path is not super challenging. In the photos you see can the the parts that are more tough. All the track you can follow the a sign on the tree that indicates the way.

On the starting point, looking towards the track, on your left there’s a house with some graffitis. (Pics on the review) If you follow this road, about 5 minutes, you will find a water fountain. You can drink the water from the mountains. Super fresh. 😄

Wonderful place, however do not take the red path especially when it is around zero degrees. We made 90% of the road and we would need to climb some quite big rocks to proceed. As they where completely wet - it was frozen and super slippery so we decided to return as it would be extreamly dangerous to climb there, especially that if you fall, you will roll down at least 50 meters, it is very steep. However the view was awesome, we was always quite close to the river, totally worth it, very challanging.

Great hike! The trail to this place is very nice, in the middle of the forest. The waterfall itself is pretty. Very good for just chilling and taking some pictures. Also good for a picnic. I came here because other plans fell apart, but It was just so nice!

Great walk with amazing views of the city. Can take between 2-3 hours to get to the waterfalls, depends on your speed. It took me 2 hours and 15 minutes, but I was alone.
The trail is marked very well, however, calculate your time for both directions, so you will not get stuck there in the dark as it happened to me. :-)

The hike is a little longer than you might think. It ended up being 3.3 km going straight up the river path and the trail.was pretty steep. We were able to do it with our 9 and 13 year old, but we opted to take the longer way down (by the lake) and, in retrospect, that would have been a better way to go up.

From here you could go visit the boyana water fall which is a pleasant walk trip. But also you could continue via some of the roots and go to one of the peaks. But i would recommend that you take the mountain seriously and check your routs first also good shoes and warm clothing as usual are essential.

Love the waterfall and the surroundings. The there are two hiking paths that lead to the waterfall. The one is steep but shorter and faster, and other one is easier to walk but with a longer distance. There's also Boyana lake nearby which is also cool. I recommend it as it is near Sofia. Beware - the location is quite crowded usually.

Whatever you do, don't take the red trail!!! I cannot stress this enough! Only take the green trail! It's a nice one day hike with some really beautiful spots like the waterfall!

I highly recommend it for anyone visiting Sofia. I cant believe that this was 20 mins away from the city center. The place is so beautiful, I wished I arrived earlier in the morning to stay longer.
The only issue is there is no specific parking place, people just park on the side of the road.

The hike took longer than expected. Took around 2.5 hours to reach there for me personally. However, it was a lovely day. Make sure to download an app that will help you find the trails otherwise you could get lost. I used the app Hiking Project. It was really useful.

Not very children friendly but great views and decent forest paths. Sadly not really safe for a proper walk so would recommend it to people with some experience in mountain hiking.

One of the best hiking destinations in Vitosha mountain! The trail is medium as average level, the normal time to hike from Boyana is 2 hours or a bit more. There is an alternative trail from the Kopitoto TV tower, which is shorter. The waterfall is the best in the spring or early summer, when the water level is higher. If you love nature, mountains and waterfalls you have to visit this one!

Great place in Vitosha mountain! 4 hours are needed to visit the Waterfall and to going back through the Boyana's lake.

A nice quiet heavenly place close to town. You can get there by bus and start walking. If you are in sofia do it. Take the bus to boyana church. Visit the church and do the walk to the lake and the falls. It's not a short wslk so you should have water and good walking shoes
