Statue Du Général De Gaulle

This is a neat statue of Charles de Gaulle commemorating his service in the Battle of Dinant, where he was injured in WWI. It's in a great location, against a backdrop of houses along the river, the fortress on the mountain, the cathedral, and the Charles de Gaulle bridge with the saxophones. Totally worth a visit.

During World War II, he led France to a significant victory. This is a popular spot for taking photographs.

Dinant- jest historycznym miastem położonym w pięknej okolicy, pomiędzy kamiennymi klifami a rzeką Mozą. To bardzo ważny
punkt na turystycznej mapie Walonii. Ponad miejskimi zabudowaniami, nad brzegiem Mozy, góruje wspaniały kościół z
cebulastą kopułą. Następnym równie popularnym wśród turystów zabytkiem jest stojąca na szczycie klifu cytadela.
Dinant, miasto, w którym urodził się i przez wiele lat żył Adolf Sax posiada oczywiście miejsce poświęcone jego pamięci.
Mieści się ono w budynku, w którym 6 listopada 1814 roku urodził się ten najwybitniejszy mieszkaniec miasta, twórca
saksofonu. Nie jest to muzeum, a raczej jego namiastka. W dwóch niewielkich pomieszczeniach zaprezentowano świat tego
wspaniałego wynalazcy, rewolucyjnego muzyka, oraz nauczyciela muzyki. Jego techniczne osiągnięcia, niesamowite
wynalazki, wyzwania, którym stawiał czoła, sukcesy, ale także i porażki. Podczas wizyty można poznać całą rodzinę
saksofonu. Po zakończeniu zwiedzania można, złapać oddech siedząc, obok figury Adolfa Saxa, na ławeczce przed
budynkiem. Około 20 metrów dalej znajduje się pomnik saksofonu. W mieście można zobaczyć w wielu miejscach rzeźby saksofonu.

Leider fehlte dem General schon eine Hand. Sonst eine schöne Statue mit Blick auf die Stiftskirche und Zitadelle auf der anderen Seite der Maas.

A statue commemorating the French Lieutenant Charles de Gaulle. He was wounded on the bridge next to the statue on the 15th of August 1914, while fighting in the Battle of Dinant. Would be great if this information was available here - I had to use Google to check why de Gaulle is so important here, in Dinant.

Charles the Guale, a nobody general during WW2 that became famous thanks to one of the most famous, empowering speeches at the BBC.

He helpt inspire the French resistance and coordinate its activities.

After the WW he became the president of France.

That's him, alright, but the face/head could have been better... Nice background, anyway.

Très belle statue du Général de Gaulle.
Passage obligé pour l'aspect historique. C'est là où le général a été blessé.
Le souvenir est important. La statue permet de faire l'effort de mémoire.
Et la vue sur la citadelle de Dinant et sur la Meuse est magnifique.

Dinant is een parel in de Ardennen. De rots Beiaard, de citadel en de gotische kathedraal zijn prachtig en de moeite waard om Dinant te bezoeken. Het standbeeld van De Gaulle mist een stuk (september 2023) 1 dag is voldoende om alles te zien, verder is er niet veel te beleven, helaas erg veel verval, ook in de hoofdstraat van Dinant is erg veel leegstand.
