Restaurant De Olifant

Excellent food.
We had the italian buffet.

Starters were good.
Main course lacked some options, and the sauce from the first course was removed a bit early.
Dessert was excellent.

The bus stop is right in front of the restaurant,
sadly it only stops there once per hour, and it was late - causing us to miss the train,. waste the better part of another half an hour.

As an Italian woman living in the Netherlands, I am always skeptical when it comes to trying out an Italian restaurant. Today, during my birthday, I dared with my man giving it a try with this not so Italian named restaurant De Olifant. Immediately happy about a parking present for the Cara on the back of the restaurant, we came with 10 minutes delay, but no problem about that from the host. Lekker! We sat outside, view on the Vecht, a gentle breeze and sunset sun rays through the trees in from of us. We took two glasses of wine of the house to start the celebration. Quite tasty red wine, not too strong not too light, sweet but not too much. Good start. We ordered a lot, from bites to antipasto to maindish of pasta. Really full of taste the dish with Burrata and grilled watermelon. Ingredients I was singularly familiar with, were matched in a surprisingly was totally new to my palate. I loved it. Too bad that the Burrata itself was a quarter of Burrata, and as a good Italian knowing the Burrata I was expecting a huge white ball of that awesome fresh cheese in my plate hehehehe. The calamari fritti, they were soft and well cooked. I liked the crunchy coating and the sauce with them. Calamari themselves had not the taste I am used too but I come from the south of Italy, I understand that this would be pretty impossible .. then the main dish for me was cannelloni with smokey salmon. The plate was again delicious with ingredients together that I never tried, but created a very enjoyable taste. I could say the same for the zalm, I could expect a bit more taste from it but after all the plate had a balanced feeling in my mouth. My man took all related to cheese: parmesan balls, truffel rice croquettes and a main dish of Fiocchi formaggio e pere. It was a creamy gorgonzola sauce for a pasta filled with peers and cheese. The sweetness of the peer was an awesome surprise. Yes I stole bites from the plates of my man to try out everything!!!!! And in the end...tiramisu and coffee. I personally don't like amaretto in the tiramisu but I have to say it exceeded my expectations. Mascarpone cream was very soft and tasty. Only note that maybe I know that can be improved is the coffee... Ups. The taste was not bad, but it didn't have the consistency of an espresso ;-)
In the end, I am happy I discovered this place close to my home. They don't claim to prepare truly Italian original dishes, they add a personal and original touch and make it, for me, much more enjoyable than chasing Italian standards in very classical dishes. Personnel extremely friendly and accepting my comments... I understand I am not an easy customer but I am happy on how my birthday dinner went :-) not the cheapest place to eat but when you eat properly... You don't really care, do you??? I am now full and satisfied!!!! Keep up the good work!

In between we enjoyed the most marvelous dinner I can rememder since a long time.

It’s always nice to have a little piece of Italy close to my home

Great food: authentic and of high quality, fast and friendly correspondence by e-mail. Due to COVID-19 restrictions we couldn't dine at the restaurant, we ate at our accommodation Logement a/d Vecht instead - no problem. We were pleasantly surprised by the flavours and combinations - highly recommend and we would definitely eat here again.

Great food and superb service

Met een flashback naar de corona tijd waarin we toen ook regelmatig het heerlijke shared dining menu konden halen voor thuis, besloten we dit onlangs weer voor een grotere groep t.b.v. een verjaardag thuis te bestellen. Wat was alles weer tot in de puntjes verzorgd en heeft iedereen wederom kunnen genieten van de heerlijke gerechten. Ongelooflijk hoe de keukenbrigade dit voor ons, naast het reguliere restaurant en evenementen, met zeer veel aandacht , flexibiliteit en uitleg voor ons heeft geregeld. We konden zelf onze voorkeur voor de gerechten inbrengen en hebben ons deels laten verrassen. We hadden zelfs een niet pasta liefhebber in ons midden die de twee verschillende pasta's in het menu heel erg lekker vond!! Ook op het vlees/vis hoofdgerecht is niet gekeken naar de kostprijs, we kregen echt een heel mooi en perfect voorbereid stukje ribeye voorgeschoteld. Het dessert en de italiaanse tapas schotel vooraf waren ook zeer ruim en heerlijk van smaak. Kortom, we hebben een fantastische en smakelijke avond gehad met dank aan het team van de Olifant, zeer zeker voor herhaling vatbaar!

We zijn verwend met heerlijk eten!! We gingen weer voor het verrassingsmenu! En hoe!!
Super lekker en super mooi opgemaakt!

De sfeer in het restaurant was ook erg aangenaam. Het interieur was stijlvol en modern, met een warme en gezellige ambiance. Het creëerde de perfecte setting voor een ontspannen dinerervaring.

Al met al kan ik restaurant De Olifant ten zeerste aanbevelen. Het biedt niet alleen heerlijk eten, maar ook uitstekende service en een geweldige sfeer. Of je nu op zoek bent naar een romantisch diner voor twee of een gezellige avond met vrienden, dit restaurant zal zeker aan je verwachtingen voldoen.

Dit restaurant met Italiaanse keuken is geweldig! Frank is een heel gepassioneerde kok die echt zorgt voor heerlijke gerechten, je proeft de liefde voor de Italiaanse keuken. De vriendelijke bediening en gezellige sfeer maken de ervaring compleet. Een aanrader voor iedereen die van echt Italiaans eten houdt!

We hebben hier heerlijk gebruncht op 1e Paasdag. De sfeer was goed en het personeel heel erg vriendelijk en snel. We komen zeker nog een keertje terug.
Met wat warmer weer kan ik me voorstellen dat het op het terras heerlijk vertoeven is.

Fantastisch verzorgde bruiloft van mijn zus en zwager mogen meemaken in de Olifant. Echt super. Alles was gewoon goed verzorgd en heerlijk gegeten.

We hebben hier heerlijk gegeten, erg verassende gerechten. Vriendelijke bediening.

Echt heerlijk eten aardig en attent personeel en fijne atmosfeer. Ga hier altijd met veel plezier naar toe.

Afgelopen week hier gegeten. En echt een aanrader. De gerechten waren heerlijk, vooral de Arancini's met bospaddenstoelen. Ook de "kleine" pasta's, waarbij de porties absoluut niet "klein" te noemeb waren, heerlijk! De pasta scampi en de risotto "geshared" na wat heerlijke fingerfoods.

De pesto bij het broodplankje was absoluut huisgemaakt, je kon het proeven😇🥰

Chapeau! Mooie prijs-kwaliteitverhouding.

Geweldige tent met gevoel voor smaak en ambiance. A la carte, shared dining of een verassingsmenu, allemaal op en top in orde en héérlijk van smaak. De chef-kok weet wat écht lekker Italiaans eten is!

Wat een fijne zaak. Met familiegroep kerstavond geweest. Menu samengesteld met de kok. Eigen op naam gestelde menukaart met 3 keuzes per gang. Klasse bediening en GEWELDIG SMAKELIJK ETEN. Echt een aanrader.
