Amazing place to visit such a stark memorial to remember those individuals from Belgium/Flemish who died during WW1.

There is a small silent film to watch on shell shock which is so thought provoking and may disturb some people.

The lift whisks you all the way to an indoors panoramic view for those who won't manage the stairs up to the roof. For those who can there are several small flights of stairs to the top.

When up there on a clear day you can easily see all of the surrounding countryside where major battles took place.

It cost (August 2022) €8 per person and was worth the experience

What a great museum. You talk the lift to the top and work your way back down with each floor telling a different aspect of the story of WW1. Plan to spend at least 2 hours there. Plenty of English language information

I wasn't sure what to expect, but this museum packed a LOT of history into its design. You start with an elevator up to the top of the tower where you get a great view. Then you slowly work your way down about 20 floors, each with a themed display: Weapons, gas attacks, trenches, uniforms, etc. Very worth the visit.

The views from the top are brilliant! The museum is also so informative and interactive. I love the trenches experiences - would highly recommend!

1st visit ever... the view is obviously great, but also the many levels of the museum one goes through when descending are without exception excellent! The collection of historical artefacts is first rate and the way in which everything is presented is exemplary. Strongly recommended.

It's a very simple experience, and plenty of room and time to experience in October. 22 floors by lift or stairs. Nice town locally. And walking distance to other attractions....

World War 1 museum, it's a must go if you want to learn more about the region and the importance of the river during the war. It has a viewpoint aswell completly at the top to see the beauty of the flanders fields. Highly recommended.

This museum is a must visit we were very fortunate being friends with someone who has dedicated his life to remembering how the world war played out on his homeland of Belgium, Johan Vandewalle has also appeared on the series Time Team when they recruited his expertise to excavate the famous Vampire Dugout in Flanders.
Johan has contributed to the Yser Tower on 2 floors with genuine exhibits and his recreation of a dugout using authentic timbers recovered from an original dug-out gives a lasting and genuine impact of what life must have looked like under ground in WW1.
Johan pointed out many interesting facts about the area and what it was like in WW1 for the not only the soldiers but the Belgians too along with staff from the museum.
It's situated in large grounds with ample parking for any size of vehicle and the canal with its cafés is a nice place to unwind and reflect after the museum visit.
If your interested in meeting Johan Vandewalle you can find him in his cafe
De Dreve, Sonnebeke in Ypres where you can have a hot meal and a drink surrounded by war memorabilia that Johan has recovered locally. He also has dedicated the upstairs into a museum which is also a must see.

Very pleased we stopped by to visit as I learned much about this area and it's involvement in WW1. Views from the top outstanding, and the displays on the several floors impressive.

Great museum to learn a bit more about history. The view from the top is really a beautiful sight. Inside as you climb down, each floor takes you through time, and it's very interesting to learn some of Belgium history during the wars. It was a good experience and so much history to see.
(And yes, they had a lot of information in French and English as well, so it's great for tourists)

Really interesting, great and sometimes shocking. Especially the room where it is dark and you here someone choking and dying because of gas is scary but also showing how cruel the life in the trenches was. If you are just a tiny bit interested in The Great War, go there. And also if you are not; this is a must-visit place! By the way, if you are there, visit the German cementry in Vladslo. There is some piece of art too; Käthe Kollwitz's Trauernde Eltern (in english: Moarning parents)

This is a museum about the Flemish in the First World War. The most interesting facet of the museum and monument is that it also covers the effects of war in the decades following, including destruction of war graves, destruction of the first monument and various political movements.

Unusual place but the views are sensational, rivaling top of the rock in NYC, which we went to only recently. Then you get into the museum which is delivered over multiple levels and is of a high quality. We even met the curator, who gave some great information about the tower and Flemish cultural and political changes which was fascinating for us coming from New Zealand. He didn’t correct my wife on the bombing of Pearl Harbor in World War One, which was wise. I would recommend. A real gem.

250ft to the top and amazing views, panorama sets the science for what Yser looked like at the end of WW1.
Work your down 22 floors learning all about The Great War.
Worth every penny and my girls and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
(Toilets but no cafe).
