Mausoleum of Lalon Shah is also known as Lalon Akhara. It is is the burial place of Baul Emperor Lalon Shah. It is not built by overnight. Lalon died in 1890. After his death his devotees are started to flocking here. Many visitors come to visit here. One Baul singer was singing when I was there. The abode of the spiritual saint Lalon was in the village of Cheuriya. He died on Friday, October 17, 1890. He used to initiate locals and devotees in this Cheuriya. He used to organize festivals here every year during winter. Thousands of devotees flock to this festival, where they discuss Baul songs and physiology. Even after his death, devotees throng here every year for this talk. This is how an arena is created here. His beloved devotees are also buried here. This is how the popularity of this place has increased day by day. His present shrine was built there in 1963. In 2004, the academy building with a modern auditorium was constructed there. The mausoleum complex has a museum dedicated to Lalon.

It is a very quiet place. Although I went during the fasting month. The weather was very hot but the place was very clean. Next to Lalan Shah's grave is the grave of his foster mother and in front of it are the graves of some of Lalan Shah's followers. To protect the sanctity of the shrine, taking pictures with mobile phones and cameras is prohibited inside the shrine.

Next to the shrine is a three-storied auditorium where Lalan's followers stay and singing songs. Next to it is the academic building, there is the Lalan Museum on the ground floor, the library on the second floor, the monitoring room on the third floor and the Lalan Culture and Music Education School on the fourth floor.

On the other side of the shrine there is a large monochord sculpture. There is a shower, toilet and drinking water facility.

Lalan Mela is held twice every year. Once during the festival of Dol Purnima and another time on the 1st of Bangla Kartik month (16th of October). This fair is organized at Lalan Akhara. In Lalon Mela, his disciples come from all over the country. Also, many visitors from the country and abroad also come. Here the Baul song festival goes on throughout the night. The shrine is decorated with colors on this occasion. However, there is criticism that ganja sessions are held at this fair, devotees come here and consume ganja.

If someone wants to come from Dhaka by train, get down at Poradah railway station. Then from Poradah, take an easy bike or auto rickshaw to Chowrhas, then get down here by bus or easy bike and get down at Dabirmolla gate, and from there take an easy bike to Lalon Shah's shrine. If you want, you can reserve a car from the station and go to the shrine. In that case, the rent may increase.

If you are traveling by train from Khulna, Jessore, Rajshahi, Chilahati, you can first get down at Poradah railway station and follow the same rules.

This place resembles our history and legacy as well. Fakir Lalon was not only the prominent history maker but also was a topnotch philosopher. This place has nicely kept the legacy of this tremendous human being. There are a market adjacent to this mazar where you can find all the local musical instruments and necessary utilities of rural areas. The place is calm, quite, peaceful and praiseworthy. There is a lake besides this mazar which is beautiful. You can find lot of people’s there and you will be amazed to see their love and dedication towards the great Lalon Shah. Beautiful place.

Visited the place on a hot summer midday, maybe not the most ideal time for a visit. Found the place peaceful, listened to a live performance by a group of musicians and left!
