Hajiganj Fort 09/09/2022
We left by bike at 7:00 am to visit the sights of Narayanganj from Mirpur 2 of Dhaka. We reached Hajiganj fort at approximately 8:15 am. We reached here without any difficulty following the Google map directions. It is open to public. We left the bike next to the fort and entered through the main gate. There is a field in the middle of Hajiganj fort which is now used as a playground for the locals. We saw the locals playing cricket inside the field. But they help us to explore. Hajiganj Fort is a water fort built during the Mughal period. It is located on the west bank of Sheetalkhya River in Hajiganj area of Narayanganj district of Bangladesh. It is also known as Khizirpur Fort. This Hajiganj Fort is one of the three water forts that were built before the seventeenth century to protect Dhaka city.

Hajiganj Fort also called Khizrpur Fort, situated at Hajiganj locality of Narayanganj on the western bank of the Sitalakshya. Having the characteristics of a water fort, it was originally built just at the point where the old Buriganga discharged into the Sitalakshya. It may have been built soon after Islam Khan established the Mughal capital at Dhaka, and was intended to countercept the raids of the Magh and Portuguese pirates.

Its historical place named as Hajiganj Fort. So far established on time of Mughal's empire. Some of Locals said that it was used as jail on that time where pirates were being locked up for their judgment from ruler.some others said that it was used for troops parade ground.
You can visit this place easily by rickshaw or by walking from Chasara, Narayanganj. Or if you come through river you can also visit by
Rickshaw or by walik. No certain area for car parking. No wheel chair accessibility and no parking area. Entrance is free. Very nice place to enjoy your afternoon time. But it is vere small area. Hence if there is huge crowd at afternoon you can lose your hope of quiescence. At morning there is no crowd at all.

A heritage that describes the value of city of Narayanganj. This thing presents the value of Narayanganj city started back in hundreds of years ago. In our country there's only 3 remaining Highly fortified Mughal Water Forts. And two of them are still standing high in Narayanganj. Makes me always wonder what kind of importance was Narayanganj holding That it needed two massive forts !!!

Hajiganj Fort is a historical fort in Narayanganj on the western bank of Shitalakshya River. It is also known as Khizirpur fort. The builder of the fort is disputed. According to some historians, it was built by Mughal Subadar Islam Khan, while others say that it was built by Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb's representative Subadar Mir Jumla.
Though the purpose of the fort is clear. It was built to protect Dhaka and Narayanganj from pirate attacks. At that time, Narayanganj was the capital of the eastern part of Bengal.
The fort doesn't have any inscription that says when it was built, but historians think that it was built in either 1610 or 1650 AD. It was renovated in various stages to bring it to its present state.

Hajiganj Fort is one of the historical place in the list of archeological division of Bangladesh. Its situated just beside Nabiganj Ferry Ghat, Narayanganj. People can visit there from CTG road to Nabiganj Ferry Ghat or from Narayanganj to Nabiganj Ferry Ghat.
People also known it by Khijirpur Fort but my suggestion is to ask people where is KELLAR MAJAR and they will easily understand and show you the way.
