Arslanagić Bridge Reviews

To see a 500-year-old bridge for free is pretty great. We drove there and parked the car at the nearby neighborhood with no problem. Maybe it's just the low season of late October, but the weather and the water were perfect. You can see the grass in the river very clearly, and the whole atmosphere was just so relaxing that you might feel you were transported back in time.

Perović (Arslanagić) bridge is the most famous monument from the Ottoman period in Trebinje and has a very important place in Balkan architecture of 16th century. Mehmed-Pasha Sokolović built the bridge 1574 in honor to his son who was killed in the battle with Venice. When Turks got pushed away from Herceg Novi in 1687, many Turkish families moved from this town to Trebinje. A certain individual named Arslan-aga was among them. He was given land east of Trebinje: Zupci, Necvijeće and Jasen, and was also put in charge of collecting fee people had to pay to cross this bridge. Since that, this bridge was named after him – Arslanagić (Arslan-aga) bridge. With the construction of hydropower system on Trebišnjica in 1965 the bridge got submerged under the newly created reservoir lake. However, in 1966 the Institute for Protection of Cultural Monuments requested the bridge to be moved upstream to the new location – between Gradina (right river bank) and Police (left).

Walking to and from this beautiful, historic bridge from the other side of the Trebisnjica River is a wonderful workout. The bridge had much more of an incline than I had anticipated. There is so much history here! There is no entry fee, although I did read that a toll was charged back in the 1600s, ha-ha.

Beautiful bridge, across the rather fast and clear river. Definitely worth seeing if in the area! It is possible to walk across the bridge and to have a walk by the river since the walking path is very beautifully done.

It's nice that the bridge is located in a quiet zone (although not far from the center of the town), so you can admire history in a stress-free setting, along the Trebišnjica River. If you are fond of historic monuments, it's worth visiting.

It’s beautiful! It is a very nice although the location is not very convenient as it’s out of the old town and requires a bit of a walk. The views from the bridge are very nice and the river is lovely. It’s a quite area and nice.

Definitely worth visiting when you are in Trebinje. The bridge gives up more than Mostar if you are only looking at the environment point of view. It’s also longer and well located with more viewpoints.

Built in the 16th century, this Ottoman bridge used to connect the road between Dubrovnik and Istanbul. In the 1960s it was moved 5 km brick-by-brick to Trebinje to prevent being demolished for the building of a dam. Bring some beers from the shop and enjoy the sun setting over the hills

Beautiful bridge from 16th century! Originally built 5 kilometres upstream but in 1966. relocated downstream due to dam construction.

One of the must-see places in this city. The bridge has a very nice historical story that you should read before visiting the bridge. The environment in which the city itself is located is unique and the nature is fantastic.
