Commercial Hotel Kaniva

Great spot and pub. Allowed us to park our caravan out the back. Pizza for dinner and great old fashioned country pub atmosphere. Would stay here again.

With all the feels of a traditional true blue dinky di country pub, you just can't go past the Commercial hotel in Kaniva. The food was perfect pub grub and I received the warmest of welcomes from Bob the publican and Shelby the pub dog. This pub oozes beautiful country charm, the decor and memorabilia resonates with that of a museum.

The rooms are super clean, good sizes and comfy beds. The shared bathroom and toilets were immaculate and honestly there is nothing that I could fault with little slice of good old Australian History.

Do yourself a favour and pop in for a day or two at the Commercial Hotel Kaniva - you won't regret it.

My partner and I had an overnight stay in Kaniva as part of our road trip. Looking for food we followed Google reviews to the Commercial Hotel and I'm so glad we did. A charming hotel, full of character with a delightful publican, Bob, who greeted us and introduced himself when we arrived. Well done Bob! It was pizza night and two pizzas and lots of chats later we reluctantly left. What a great find. Highly recommended 😀😀😀.

What a fantastic surprise my random overnight stop turned out to be!
An absolute gem with very tastefully decorated rooms and a very welcoming and friendly owner. The whole place has a feel of an old school gentleman’s manor with tastefully decorated rooms that could only be done by someone with a personal passion for collectables and antiques. A nice kitchen with good breakfast supplies and a fantastic spacious bathroom and shower all running on filtered rainwater. Only negative I can think of is for those who are light sleepers the traffic noise may be intrusive but Bob has even thought of that by supplying ear plugs in the top drawer of the bedside cabinet.
I will definitely stay again. Love this place !

My cousin booked a room for myself and 2 other cousins for our visit to Kaniva. An altogether fantastic experience. My room overlooked the town, was very comfortable, spotlessly clean as was the bathroom, guest lounge and kitchen areas.
Bob and Shelby (pub dog) are friendly and made us feel very welcome!
I will be recommending this pub to everyone who mentions they are travelling to Adelaide.

Wow what a refreshing, friendly place after a long trip.
Bob is a great host and he doesn't have a bossy sign on the piano like the last people!!

A Gem of a pub on the highway, The host Bob was very welcoming and a delight to chat too. The food was fantastic, I had the Flathead fillets with chips and vegetables which was delicious. The whole hotel has been refurbished to a great standard with lots of artefacts adorning the walls.
I ended up staying the night and was quite surprised by the room’s upstairs, being freshly refurbished and comfortable. Make sure this hotel is part of your journey on the great western highway!

I just had the friendliest and coziest time at Kaniva Commercial Hotel! The owner's genuine hospitality made me feel like I was catching up with old friends. Stayed here a couple of weeks ago.
Bob is a great publican, meals were great, we'll worth stopping for a drink and a meal.
Decor is great, he has done a good job.
Will definitely stop there again.

A Total Gem.
Incredible pub lovingly and uniquely restored by its owner Bob who is a fantastic and authentically warm host. Our Upstairs Family room and common areas were generous, and amazing - curated with vintage collectables.
A huge bonus was being able to bring our Jack Russell 'Boo' who played for hours with Bob's gorgeous staffy wingpup 'Shelby'.
An overall awsome experience staying here on our recent travels through the Wimmera/Mallee. Thanks Bob and Shelby.

A hidden Gem. Friendly service, comfortable and clean rooms. The meals are amazing! You can't go past the rump for the steak lovers (cooked to perfection) walking distance to the main shopping precinct. In the final stages of renovations. Will definitely visit again.

Incredible hotel in the middle of the road between Melbourne and Adelaide, the owner, Bib, was so polite and ready to help us, the rooms were incredible, and bathroom too, everything was so clean, and with a magical atmosphere, we arrived to the bar and Bob asked us if we have a room, he showed some to us and then we share a beer till late with him talking about the life and looking a rugby match.

What a gem! A rare find. Classic country pub, friendly publican with warm and cosy vibes. We would’ve stayed longer than two pints but no food on Tuesdays. Would definitely recommend and look forward to returning once upstairs accommodation is complete.
Shelby the pub staffy also deserves her own 5 Star reviews.

From the first phone call to make sure some hungry truckers could get a feed Bob was welcoming and helpful. Food was fantastic and the staff were amazing. Thank you once again for you hospitality. We will be back.

My wife and I stayed here on the weekend in the newly renovated upstairs guest area. There was a guest lounge, a guest kitchen, shared bathrooms for females and another for males and our room of course. All beautifully renovated and furnished with antiques. The guest area was absolutely beautiful. Dinner had in the downstairs hotel area of hotel, lovely meals and good and friendly service. Bob the owner was a wonderful host. Nothing was too much trouble for him. Friendly locals, friendly town that is kept neat and tidy. There was solo art, parks and a flaura and fauna wetland area. That area had a talking cookatoo that loved to have a chat. Such a wonderful weekend.
Do yourself a favouir if travelling from Adelaide to Melbourne, stay a night (or two) with Bob. Bob even offers country pub camping to some travellers providing you support his hotel for meals and drinks.
I forgot to mention Shelby, the star Staffy. She is a delight to get to know too.

We parked our caravan behind the pub at Bob's invitation and stayed there at no cost We are fully self contained). Enjoyed a delicious dinner, home made chicken schnitzel and parmigiana with a couple of drinks. Bob is very welcoming and the locals were friendly, fun and welcoming. Highly recommend a visit.

Bob is a deadset legend, what a wonderful publican. Come for Bob and stay for the food (which is delicious by the way). Make sure you chat to Bob about AFL players only getting a point when it hits the post it's worth the laugh. We will be back.
