The Sewing Basket at Balmain has something for everyone. Lots of little nooks and crannies filled with amazing finds for the sewing room or craft studio. Pauline and her crew are really knowledgeable regarding their stock, and so willing to assist with suggestions and practical advice when needed.
I've made both these bags and the cushion from fabrics, buttons and braid I've picked up for a fraction of the price you'd pay elsewhere.
Always a fun shopping experience.

I love the Sewing Basket! I have bought some wonderful fabrics for friends, and for costumes for the Older Women’s Network Theatre Group. My most recent purchase was a gorgeous selection of fabrics and ribbons to make ‘caps’ for our jam and pickle fundraiser. The staff are so helpful, and the fabrics are beautifully organised. And so affordable, and for a great cause.

What a joy it is every time I enter this fabulous store! Actually even beforehand, getting to check out the new fabric arrivals taking the air, rummaging through the remnant box, or admiring the creative window displays.

Once inside, it's always impressive how well organised everything is, and what an abundance of treasures I find - not the least the fantastic staff, with Pauline sharing her knowledge and being able to pinpoint anything you might be looking for.

Can't rave highly enough! 😍⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Sewing Basket at Balmain is a terrific local resource if you’re any kind of craft person. They have the lot, all donated so terrific prices. And the volunteers are most helpful. Not only that, there are lots of readymade items to purchase, all beautifully crafted by The Sewing Basket clients.

Balmain is my favourite Sewing Basket location. There is always something interesting and/or quirky on offer. Bargains galore and truly lovely people offering beautiful service. Do yourself a favour, grab a bargain or drop off some supplies then go and visit one of the excellent cafe's in the area.

My 4yo grandson and I made Christmas tree decorations for his pre-school teachers last year. He pinned the pieces and filled them with lavender after I'd sewn them. The Christmas remnants were perfect! He also loved the hand knitted, pure wool jumper I purchased. I have been buying all my sewing supplies from Achieve Australia since a friend recommended it.

Such a treasure five of goodies! I have found so many bit and pieces here for a fraction of the price of buying new. It makes me feel so good to buy a preloved tool rather than a brand new cheaply made one from a big box store. And I know when I’m done I can donate it for the next crafter. The money goes to a great cause too. It’s a win win. I have only been to the Balmain store and it is so well organised and neat and clean. Great experience! Thanks!

Do you like op-shopping (thrift shopping)? Do you sew / knit / crochet / embroider? This is the place for you. A second-hand shop dedicated to sewing and other supplies - many of the items are brand new. Rewards frequent visits as the stock is constantly changing.

First visit today- what a fantastic find! Absolute gem :)

Pauline was utterly delightful and has such a wonderful array of products. She was very helpful and patient with my two little children in the shop. We already can’t wait to come back! She had lots to wonderful ideas for how to entertain two small children in 128sqm during isolation. Very grateful indeed!

Definitely go and take a look. It is like stepping back in time to my childhood, in ALL the BEST ways. Carefully chosen things, attention to detail, helpful service, and quality things. So happy we can support this local business going forward!

Pauline suggested a little simple embroidery for my 3yr old and we collected a number of other little craft activities- including quilt squares, lots of choice of designs- see pics attached. She even had a vintage Nestle tin, which we used to make my daughter’s special little sewing box. Fantastic!

I really enjoy a good fossick around the Balmain arm of the Sewing Basket. I've picked up loads of lovely things: fabric, wool, patterns, books, haberdashery items. Knowing how often I visit, my daughter very thoughtfully gave me a gift voucher from here for my birthday.

The first time I bought from the sewing basket was at a craft show. The people that were there were great . The store has been great too. It is great what they do, by reselling old material instead of it going to waste. The materials are also not expensive and you are helping the environment by buying them.
