Garfield Water Wheel

Well worth the extra few minutes off the beaten track. There are a bunch of walking tracks of different lengths, there's even a guide to tell you the terrain as well.

Good history and landmark. Some gift puzzles were there also when we arrived. Good milestone for a walk from the town of Castlemaine

Had a great walk at Garfield Water Wheel in Castlemaine! The rich history of the site really shines through, and I loved taking a quick hike around the picturesque surroundings. A perfect blend of history and natural beauty - Highly recommended if in the area.

Great walk. I wish we had more time so we could explore it more. Overall. It's a nice short walk, and I am amazed to see the water wheel.

Sounds boring but it's definitely not. This huge 22m diameter wheel powered mining operations for many decades. 1700 ounces of gold produced per year at peak.
Walk the 'water race' (channel that brought water to power the wheel). Quite slippery in winter. Goes past 3 vertical open mine shafts (fenced off). It's safe as long as you stay on path.
Semi remote: a walked for 3 hours and saw no one (July). Take lots of water and don't get lost!

One million zomatos- The Garfield Water Wheel is the best place in the entire world. A beautiful, magical, life-changing experience. Go touch the wheel asap!

If you didn’t pay attention or to your research, you’d have no idea what this place holds. Definitely worth testing the plaques. If you are to continue beyond here, looking for other remains of civilisations once thriving, bring a digital go’s, or a compass. Don’t want to get lost here.

Incredible historical relic. Easy to get to. The walking nearby is great too.

Very lovely with a short walk of 1km for the water wheel area. Saw some kangaroo in the flower field!

History preserved in the old water wheel quartz stamp. If only you could go back in time. My Great Grandfather was part of the Gold rush at Chewton vic.

A nice walk in the bush with some interesting mining ruins still around.

Beware there are still open mine shafts in the area that are not covered. Keeps the kids near and on the track.

But well worth a visit if you are in castlemaine.
