Smoky Cape picnic area

Very beautiful and (today) not yet heavily frequented...

Captain Cook lookout is beautifully positioned in Hat Head national park, has amenities including toilets, bbq areas and lots of tables and benches, with plenty of parking and easy access. With Smoky Cape lighthouse and access to North Smoky beach all nearby, it's very easy to enjoy a day here.

Very interesting history behind the lighthouse and magnificently built out of huge sandstone blocks.

Great spot for a picnic, bbq, bushwalk down to the beach below, and have even attended a wedding there! Can't beat the view on a fine day ⭐ There's also a beautiful National Park camp ground down below the light house with easy access to beach on the south side.

Only a short drive from South West Rocks to the Captain Cook Lookout. There are spectacular views of the coast and hinterland from the lighthouse. There is camping at Smokey Cape Campground which is located a short walk from the lookout. Around the lookout there are toilet and barbeque facilities as well as walks down to Gap Beach. There is plenty of wildlife such as kangaroos, lace monitors and Bandicoots.

I simply prefer this place over Byron bay. It quieter, the lighthouse gives a more intimate feeling. The view is amazing. And parking is for free next to a lively park for meal.

Exceptional beauty. Easy walk down to the beach but the walk to the lighthouse is steep but manageable if you take your time. Magnificent views at rge top.

Please don't miss this beautiful place. We were lucky to spot the dolphins catching the surf and see the Whale migration. Just spectacular views.

This picnic area near the car park at the base of the lighthouse is a great spot to relax. BBQs and toilets are provided.

Absolutely sensational views. The walk up to the lighthouse is rather strenuous but short lived and yields a view down the southern coastline.

Amazing place to explore. Has a short walk and another to the lighthouse summit. Well worth the effort.
