What an interesting structure. The mind boggles on how they constructed it in the early 1900s. Well worth the visit. Lots of stairs to the viewing area or a walk up the hill to it. I managed the stairs up and down with a bad hip and a crutch.

Beautiful piece of history to look at and pictures really don’t show how grand and the large scale it truly is. Obviously you can’t get into the bridge but there’s a perfectly good viewing platform.
The car park is gravel and the area has toilets. There are also a couple of picnic tables in the parking area. The maps don’t show the exact location where it is but you just keep following the road for a few more kilometres.

This 100 year old bridge is a must-see if you are passing through the Nowra area.
The Stoney Creek Bridge was built in 1916 as part of the 97km Bairnsdale to Orbost route through rugged terrain.

Stunning bridge with some great photo opportunities. Different bridge viewpoints either side, and some nice walks nearby too. Dogs are allowed on leash, although caution near the top of the railway line and the steep drop. A few parking areas, with the main parking at the bottom of the bridge. Information boards and steps leading up to the top.

This was a great fun, easy ride to get to from Bruthen and back again. Credit to the trail Builders as it is smooth and easy to ride for all abilities. The bridge is a fascinating piece of history and well worth the pedal power on the rail trail.

Place is amazing. Great paths to walk. Don't try walking up on the bridge though. You go down this easy to drive dirt track to get there, a fun road to drive down in a subaru. Well worth stopping at if in the area

A wonderful reminder of early 20th century ingenuity and engineering. A credit to the builders, may it remain protected from fires.

Very very pretty. Nothing else to do but stare at the very pretty old, and decaying, wooden bridge but a fine slice of old Victorian history.

Our country was built on stuff like this, old and derelict now but essential in its day, built with the timber that was in the area at the time to extend the rail line out to Orbost, you cannot walk on the bridge, but get a clear look at it from the lookout

The last bit of road is an easy 3k unsealed dirt road, no challenge in our little RWD.
Great little stop on an overcast day, you'll see bits of railway bridge a bit like this in other places but this is a good peaceful place to take it all in properly.
A bit east of nowa nowa there is a small, much lower, stretch of this type of bridge close enough that you can see if from the road, if you go past and like it you should definitely go check this out.

Built in 1916 when the railway line between Melbourne and Bairnsdale was extended to Orbost. This 247m long and 20m high Red Ironbark and Grey Boxwood bridge survived a bushfire in 1980 and continued in service until 1987. Well worth the trip to view this structure from either the car park at the base of the bridge or from the viewing area the top. A fine example of Australian engineering and construction. No facilities available for food and drink but clean toilets nearby.

What a lovely bit of heritage. Definitely worth a look and especially if you are a train buff. Only 3km off the main road and the road in was good. The road was really suitable for caravans as there are very limited places for turning around.

Easy drive down a well graded dirt road. Suitable for 2wd. An amazing feat to build this trestle bridge without modern machinery. There are 2 separate areas to view the bridge from so you can see it from either direction.

40⁰, too hot for the beach or fishing, too bored to sit in the motel room so we took a quick drive out to the bridge. Impressive!! The gravel road is wide and graded (compared to some we've encountered this week). There's a parking section at either end of the bridge. Toilets are at the far end. We didn't walk too far, it was too hot, plus the grass/weeds are long at the base of the bridge.

This towering Trestle Bridge is on the Gippsland Rail Trail. Unsealed road leads to this olde derelict railway trestle bridge with limited area for parking.
Looks well maintained with info boards. Can walk up the slope to get up close to the top of this bridge -just follow path past drop toilets & return via the metal staircase. Vantage points for pics but be careful closer to the tracks at the top - there is a barrier gate but gaping spaces just before it. Tree trunks around this area have a distinctive fire charred look - probably from older back burning. It is quite amazing that this trestle bridge has survived bush fires of the past.
