The General - Strath Creek

I dropped into The General Strath Creek for a coffee and a bite to eat. It's a mix of a general store, post office, restaurant, and bar. The place has a fantastic set-up and atmosphere (check out the pics), and the staff are really friendly. I was after something quick, so I got a reuben sandwich. I was expecting it to go in a sandwich press, but was pleasantly surprised to see it handed to a chef out back to property toast... best I've ever had. Coffee was excellent too, so good that I got another one for the road on the way out. I am looking forward to coming back with the family for a meal and drink. Highly recommended!

Definitely worth the detour. If you can stop here you will love it. Friendly staff. Food is excellent. Great menu. We had the Reuben toastie and Mushroom cheese toastie. Excellent Allpress coffee and delicious hot chocolate with marshmallows. Lots of parking. The renovation is stunning. It was cold outside and we really appreciated sitting by the huge fireplace. Lots of outdoor tables as well. We will definitely be back.

Gorgeous general store with a cafe that has a delicious menu. Loved the ambience and decor which made it feel so cozy. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a place to eat and relax before you keep going along on your journey

My husband and I were married at Flowerdale Estate on Sunday and had absolute pleasure of hosting our post-wedding celebration at The General on Monday. I cannot express enough how utterly fantastic the experience was. Prue and her husband welcomed us with open arms and the warmest of smiles. From the moment we stepped in, it felt like we were hanging out with family in the comfort of our own home. If you’re looking for old school hospitality and a friendly face definitely pop into The General.

The food, omg! It was not only delicious but arrived promptly and served of course with a big beautiful smile. The staff went above and beyond to ensure that our large party was well taken care of, and they did it all with such grace and kindness. They made us feel like we were the most important guests in the venue and did so with every customer there. They effortlessly extended the joy and excitement from our wedding day into the next, creating a beautiful continuation of our love bubble.

The General is not just a place to eat; it's an experience of genuine warmth, delicious food, and unparalleled hospitality. If you're looking for a dining experience that feels like home with a touch of luxury, look no further than The General! I cannot thank Prue and her husband enough for their exceptional hospitality and outstanding service. I wish we didn’t live so far away so we could come by every weekend but we’ll definitely be back! Stopped off here after a camping trip and had the best lunch! So fresh and delicious. Also a lovely atmosphere and very friendly staff. They even have bug spray out for those sitting outside 🥹 Will definitely have to make a trip back just for the sausage rolls!

Stopped for a coffee for the first time. Have watched the building going up on previous Strath Creek visits. Food was delicious (vanilla slice and Portuguese custard tart) and the coffee good. It looks great and has a range of gourmet groceries as well as general grocery store items. It is a post office as well. A welcome addition.

We (a whole heap of wedding guests) Spent the early afternoon here after a wedding in Flowerdale the evening prior. This place is warm, welcoming and super friendly. The owner went above and beyond, catering for us. Food great, coffee great, mimosa's great! We will definitely be back!

As a local . I been waiting for a long time for the general store open. I saw not disappointed. Great staff, great food beer on tap & takeaway beer as will . And the place looks great. How ever done the carpenter on this job had a very good eye. Eddys Towing Glenburn

Awesome General Store with quality produce and delicous homestyle food and baked products. Lovely coffee and extremely happy and friendly people. Nothing for them seemed a chore. If you're passing through you must try this place. Prue was delightful to everybody. We'll be back. :)

I recently had the pleasure of attending my sister’s post-wedding celebration at The General, and I must say, it was an absolutely delightful experience. Despite being short-staffed (which I only knew because we were told at the end of our lunch, I wouldn’t have known otherwise!) the team at The General handled our large booking with grace and professionalism. From the moment we arrived, their warm smiles and friendly demeanor made us feel right at home.

The food was super tasty, and it arrived quickly with no delays, which was quite impressive considering the circumstances. It was evident that they put a lot of care and attention into every persons experience there. Despite the challenges they faced, they maintained a beautiful, warm presence throughout the entire day.

I must give a special shoutout to Prue and her husband, who went above and beyond to ensure that our celebration was nothing short of perfect. Their genuine hospitality and enthusiasm truly made the experience unforgettable. It felt like we were dining with family, surrounded by love and joy.

The staff at the General seemed calm, laid-back, and incredibly accommodating. It's rare to find such dedication and positivity in the service industry, and I am truly grateful for the wonderful experience they provided for my sister’s post wedding lunch.

When my sister was ordering, and Prue found out she was the bride, Prue threw her hands over the register to hold my sister’s hands and share in the love and excitement from the wedding. It was so beautiful to see! Prue also made an effort to speak to our parents and congratulate them too. It was like nothing was more important than keeping the love bubble going for my sister, her new husband and their family and friends!

Amazing Cafe 👍 the best food and atmosphere 😋 👌 😍 love it!! ❤ The Pavilion and Old Settlement Architecture is stunning. The perfect 1.5 hr drive from the city, I highly recommend it to get your family and friends to meet especially over the holidays or on a weekend country road trip. 😀

Just passing from Glenburn to Seymour, haven’t been that way for ages, was very surprised to see such a good looking place, decided to stop, shame we were a bit late and the kitchen was closed but the coffee was lovely. Will be going that way more often now that we know we can get a drink and food.
