Alonnah General Store

This store is an absolute gem. It offers Breakfast items such as bacon & egg rolls, homemade sausage rolls and much more. Barista coffee was awesome. Great value for money. Area to sit and enjoy breakfast is also available. You can also buy grocery items including fruit & vegetables. Owners are very friendly and helpful.

We were staying at Simpsons Bay and this was our place to go for beautiful coffee and anything we were missing to cook with.
Great selection of hot food for takeaway.
Especially the egg and bacon rolls in the am.

Great breakfasts (pesto chicken, egg/bacon/cheese, egg/bacon pitta) and steaming hot chocolates. Oh, and the apple/cinnamon muffins - perfect. Thank you for a great start to two chilly days.

This is such a friendly and chilled place for good coffee, hot snacks and groceries. Tim and Di are patient and hard working and super kind. You can eat your food outside looking toward the coastline. I never miss a visit to this great spot when on Bruny

If you want delicious takeaway food, quality coffee and wonderful staff, Alonnah General Store is a must visit when next on Bruny Island. Whether it be pantry/fridge supplies for your holiday rental, or a freshly made breakfast burger, the team here have it covered. The lovely owner Tim and his wonderful colleague Di were so friendly and acknowledging and it is evident they take pride in what they serve. The way the store is presented is impressive with lots of gourmet Tassie products sitting alongside your bread and milk. Don’t miss this place - I loved it.

The Alonnah General Store is such a gem of a find on the island. Amazing coffee and delicious food, and very handy being able to pick up supplies of things we inevitably forget on trips to Bruny. But most of all I always love returning for the friendly service! Tim and Di work so incredibly hard, and are always so friendly to us. I’ve chatted to Tim many times about life on Bruny and he’s given me many great tips and things to try and see. Always such a highlight of each trip stopping in for coffee here!!

I've been coming to Bruny as a visitor for a couple of decades, have been lucky enough to have my own place down here for the past five years, and plan to retire here. I absolutely love this place, and one of the best things to happen on the island was when new owners took over the Alonnah General Store in late 2020.

As well as offering essential grocery supplies, The General serves great coffee and super delicious fresh food including baked goods. For breakfast, I am addicted to the egg and bacon pita with homemade tomato chutney, will regularly grab a homemade pie or sandwich if I haven't been organised and packed lunch, and have eaten more of the yummy smoked trout quiches than is probably good for me!

Owner Tim and his awesome off-sider Di work SO incredibly hard. They consistently provide good-humoured and excellent customer service year-round while providing a critical service on the island for locals and visitors. They are so popular that sometimes, we customers might need to wait a little longer for a hot drink, and honestly, if they are being slammed and you need to wait a bit, sitting outside in one of the two courtyards or taking a quick stroll down to the beautiful Alonnah beach really isn't the worst way to kill a bit of time in one of the most stunning places on earth!

As anyone who has ever run a business knows, finding reliable staff is always tricky, especially in 'front-facing' customer service or hospitality roles. When you add COVID and the fact we're on a remote island at the end of the world into the mix, it makes it near impossible to get casual workers to provide extra support during busy periods.

On the rare times during peak periods where I've needed to show a bit of patience waiting to be "fed or watered" I haven't found it difficult to be reasonable and respectful, to have realistic expectations of what two hard-working staffers can do when there are large numbers of folks waiting to be served, or to slightly adjust my order if I'm truly in a hurry (highly unlikely a different choice of drink or snack is going to kill me).

I think the vast majority of residents and tourists feel the same way, and reckon many of them are as grateful as I am to Tim and Di for the long hours they put in nearly every day prepping and serving some the freshest and yummiest food on Bruny.

Great coffee. Fabulous takeaway food including yummy breakfast options .Also excellent music selection! If you are on Bruny and need a bit of refuelling , this is your stop !

Alonnah would be lost without this general store. The food and coffee is always amazing Tim and Di are both gorgeous and do such a great job accommodating for everyone especially during peak season when there is well and truly over 2000 guests on the island every day

Hands down best burger I've had in ages. Roll was fresh and beautiful. Meat was perfectly cooked. Fresh lettuce. Chips were fantastic. Staff were friendly and helpful with my fussy kids requests. Huge burger and chips for $12. Great seating area out of the sun. Didn't charge extra for sauce or condiments. Will 100% be back any time I'm on bruny.

We stopped in to this delightful store and not only is the coffee the very best on Bruny Island, but it is also one of the best we've had since arriving in Tasmania. The homemade sausage roll was amazing, and my craving for Vegemite on toast was made to perfection. They also have a wide variety of everyday groceries, and little luxuries including vegan lollies and ice cream.

The service we received was extremely friendly and accommodating. When we return to Bruny Island, this will no doubt be our first stop.

went here after being recommended the egg n bacon rolls and i tell you, worth every cent! they were absolutely YUM and the lovely workers new everyone coming in by name and had a huge sense of community just in this little shop

Went to get the newspaper and a potato cake and some prunes.
Unfortunately no prunes. But the potato cake made up for it. Haven’t eaten a potato cake in years but had one bite of my husbands and it was top notch. Well done!

This busy store has everything you need when you are on Bruny Island. I always stop in here and get a coffee. Friendly service with a smile, even when ordering a decaff, soy FW 😉.

Great coffee (coming from a Melbournian), egg & bacon panini and chips. Opens early at 8am which is earlier than most places on Bruny Island.
