Perfect place to camp to be close to castle rock and turtle rock and sphinx hikes … bring your own shower to hook up to the pulley system in the cubicle! Really nice shady sites at castle rock - seems the older more established areas as the other camps looked newer and no trees yet!! Was amazing with heaps of kangaroos possums and even an owl…

Beautiful campsite. With toilet and funny shower 😂 it is not an actual shower, you will need a basket to be able to shower there 😂. There you will see kangaroos and wallabies, and amazing view to the mountains. There is fire prohibited. Tables and picnic areas around. Atmosphere is amazing. Booking through the government website, and it’s just $7 per person per night. Lots of hike routes for different levels you can start straight from the campsite.

One of the nicest QPWS camp sites, and I should hope so after the recent facelift costing $3m. The sites are very thoughtfully laid out with separate areas for trailers/caravans and tents, and large and small sections for different sized groups. The info centre is a 200m walk away where you can get free wifi as there's sketchy phone coverage in the camp. The southern walks start right off the edge of this site as well. The new facilities are the best ones I've seen at a QPWS site; no long drops! Just real flushing toilets and pulley shower cubicles so you can hoist your own water bags/buckets.

Love this place. It's exactly as described on the website and I'd highly recommend, provided your camping set up is basically self-sufficient. Beautiful walks close by plus the local swimming holes. Bad phone reception was a pro but we also knew where to find some if needed.

Good campsite, with nice fire pits. Amenities provided and regularly clean.
Very happy, will be coming back again.

Castle Rock Camping Area has been revamped in 2022. The camping spots are numbered and must be pre-booked online.
There are a couple of spots for PWD (persons with disabilities, not powered (pwd) sites. Sites are shady, so if you need solar, consider one of the new campsites just 100 or so meters down the track - Kambuwal Camping Area (most sun and suitable for RVs & Caravans) or Terrawambella Camping Area (sunnier adjacent to the road).

Great spot to camp with toilets and showers.
Can set up fires in designated fire spots. Girraween is a beautiful national park, there is a lot to see and do.

Girraween National Park (NP) in particular Castle Rock campgrounds turned out to meet and exceed all our expectations and was certainly everything the reviews had promised. The bitumen access road, great camping sites, massive granite outcrops, precariously balanced boulders, well maintained and signposted walking tracks, rock pools and spectacular views. The only setback was that the showers were not operating due to a recent lightening strike. This turned out to be a minor inconvenience and we ended up staying an extra day without exhausting our water supply.

Great place for a night over or a 5-day long weekend to give yourself enough time to do all the walks and see all the other extras. Make sure to take a trip up to the Drs car park and explore from there. Amenities are clean and neatly presented. One thing you must bring your own drinking water or be prepared to treat water to be able to drink the water on tap. I'm coming back I loved it. 😍

I prefer the layout of this camp ground to the nearby Bald Rock Creek one, which has a more windy access road and less communal feel.
Would recommend Castle Rock camping area as a great base for hiking and climbing in the area.

PROS
• Spacious, with good-sized camping spots
• Good central shower and toilet facility
• Central to the hiking trails and natural features in the area
• Easy access by car
• Few hundred metres from Ranger's Office and Information Facility

CONS
• No internet connection, but the Information Facility has free local Wi-Fi

Lovely surroundings and a good choice of camping spots. We were able to drive through park our family van, amongst the trees with a bit of privacy. No reception, but plenty of therapeutic nature!
