Wow. Ive been to Japan a few times and the chef is the real deal. If you enjoy the cuisine as it is in Japan, this is THE place. I seriously wanted to drdg people in for the experience. 10/10 in all aspects. The best dining experience ive had in Perth.

The first time we’ve been to Senoji.
A pleasant surprise and as it wasn’t too busy it was easy to talk and enjoy the food.
A really good range of small and large meals in true Japanese style.
The owner/chef was attentive and helpful as was the wait staff.
BYO and licensed.
Will definitely go there again.

This is our favourite Japanese restaurant and I feel a real hidden gem. The menu is extensive and caters very well to meat eaters and vegetarians.
Each dish has so much flavour and presented with love.
The customer service is also exceptional. On our last visit, the waitress overheard it was my sister in laws birthday and brought over a cocktail and the sweetest little paper crane 💕
It is not bright and in your face like many restaurants along the strip (maybe why it is quiet) but if you are looking for a restaurant where you can have long conversations over great food and never feel rushed, I highly recommend.

Oh, it is byo however they also have a great selection of local and imported alcohol.

Agreed with Eric’s comment below – definitely purely for food and culture enthusiast only!

My partner and I are so so glad we found this little hidden gem and met the loveliest man behind it all – who has been there for 20+ years!

Yuki (Head chef) puts his pride and soul into making these dishes as authentic and simple as possible – identical to the taste you would find in Japan. I have never enjoyed such simple tastings in Japanese food in Perth, unlike at Senoji. Hands down J

Note: The chef solely works alone; please be mindful of the chef, and expect to wait – Yuki does an amazing job at managing, preparing the meals and serving. There were 3 tables and we did not wait all that long – we were happy to.

Senoji has been the first Japanese Restaurant we have been to that has kept it simple with no fusion – and we have tried all the Japanese Restaurants North to South of the river of WA

The food was delicious, authentic and the chef was very kind - remember not to shake his right hand too hard though, he has an injury! Thank you Chef.

We will see you again soon.

Wow!! My husband and I dined here for the first time tonight, and it was the best dining experience we've had in a long time. We ordered 6 different dishes and all were sensational. Beautiful service too, and the Japanese rice beer - delicious!

Have always enjoyed dining at Senoji! Recently found out that owner Yuki has started doing degustation menu as well. The food is amazing and I love the creativity of some of his dishes. Thank you so much Yuki-san!

food was a tad slow. but well worth the wait. food was lovely. my friends order was delayed and they provided her with a refreshment as an apology, only for the food to come shortly after anyway.

wonderful service and food!

Hands down the most authentic Japanese dining experience in Perth.

Expect a wait, expect food to be made to order, and enjoy each other's company in an authentic Japanese setting.

New favourite.

Purely for Food and culture Enthusiast only!!! Literally a japanese home kitchen in restaurant setting.

**If you want an eat and go, this will not be your option. Cause ONLY THE CHEF ALONE working and serve you most of the time. Be prepare for a longer wait. So I would suggest plan your dishes to keep your food coming.

A great overall quality of real Japanese cuisine. Prepare to encounter authentic japanese culture which you might see mean (very rare), it's just their culture. The chef is a lovely person.

Had the best sashimi pick around town. The salmon were evenly textured and well balanced fat ratio, served with the right temperature.

You can taste every each ingredient from the udon as well. you can even taste the soup from the noodle!! The broth was rich and all ingredients were fresh pick.

Definitely will go back for more!!!

REMINDER: Do not expect fancy restaurant service as it's privately owned little cosy hidden gem. Treat it as you're being served at home.

Delicious authentic Japanese cuisine. My wife and I entered not long after opening for an early dinner and were the first ones there. We were greeted by the chef and he seated us and took our order.

He provided us some great information and advice on our dishes we chose and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The food was amazing! Getting in early was great as it felt like we got the best experience possible and the wait for food was minimal.

We will definitely be returning to try other dishes in the near future.

In short, if you want to eat a genuine, freshly cooked Japanese meal this is the ONLY place to go in the whole area. Actually, for this quality, I would even say that it is quite cheap. If you are looking for a quick and cheap eat, that’s probably not the place to go. For longer explanation read my comment below.
After spending 6 years in Japan I wanted to have some genuine Japanese food during my short visit to Perth. I stayed in the area of Victoria Park and looked through most of the “Japanese sounding” restaurants to my disappointment. After talking to Japanese attendant in “Hokkaido cheese tart” shop it turned out that there remains only one restaurant in the area still run by Japanese, and that was Senoji.
I went there twice during my stay and had katsudon the first, and shougayaki the second time. I must admit that both met or exceeded my expectations and tasted just like in Japan. During my visits I had a longer chat with the chief (in Japanese) and was saddened by the low number of customers in the shop on both days and decided to write this comment. It turned out that the chief comes from family with long restaurant traditions in Japan and he is putting the utmost effort to stay genuine and keep the taste just like in Japan.
I read other comments and found quite a bit of them unfair.
As for the time to prepare the meals, yes it does take time to prepare them. Each of the dishes is made individually (by one cook) on order and even if there are just 2-3 tables it will still take time to cook the individual meals. This is a Japanese cuisine, that’s the way it is. Actually, if you see a Japanese fried or cooked meal coming to you in 5min I would get suspicious.
I also read a comment about the taste being plane and blunt. Japanese cuisine is known for having a gentle and subtle taste, so I guess until the chief doesn’t give up his idea of sticking to the original taste it will taste blunt to those used to a very strong taste.
As for the hall staff, during my visit, most of them were non-Japanese and indeed to me too they looked a bit inexperienced. I didn’t have any problems during my visits though and given the food quality I didn’t mind even if they made small mistakes. In Japanese culture, the waiter/ess never confirms an order (it is thought of as rude). I don't know if they do the same here, but just in case if you come across a Japanese, you can always double check with them the order in case they didn't get something right the first time. I guess they won't mind it if it comes from the customer.
Comment to the restaurant, I would give the food menu together with drink menu. It seems that quite a number of customers is unhappy about waiting for the food menu. I don't know why they don't give it together.
I really do hope the restaurant is still there when I visit Perth the next time, it would be a pity to loose such a gem!

Authentic and tasty Japanese food. Don't expect your local bento box styled food. Variety of sake and sapporo beer on tap. Will be back.

Authentic Japanese food, service and drinks. Agree with Eric’s comment below. Only for food and culture enthusiasts. The chef is a wonderful person who handles the whole kitchen by himself. You get served a great quality of food, so expect to wait. The chef puts his heart and soul into his dishes.
The staff are super polite, food is very tasty, portion is good for small people. Peach ice tea is very refreshing and tastes different to other places. The lighting is very soothing and calming. Would recommend this place for family, friends or dates. Has a cosy vibe to it. There’s lots of options, if you like Japanese cuisine, fish, and authentic sushi you will like it. Their technique of slicing the fish is astounding. You could see it on your plate. The salmon is really good quality as well, with great slice, texture and served at a great temperature. Give this place a try I would say for sure.

My boyfriend and I booked a table for 6 people yesterday to celebrate his birthday. The experience we had in the restaurant was absolutely fantastic. I enjoyed every part of my experience in this restaurant and I will come here again. I wish the restaurant was smaller, so it could enhance the one on one atmosphere. The only feedback, is that I would upgrade the menus, even if they were paper. My advice to future diners is to book ahead of time.

Delicious food and a great experience! Worth taking note (as others have said) that if you’re in a hurry this won’t be right for you as food is made to order, and the whole restaurant is operated by one person. However as others have said if you’re looking for authentic Japanese food and a brilliant cultural experience I would highly recommend. Thank you!
