O'Keefe Rail Trail

The trail from Bendigo to Axedale has a very good surface & is very well maintained. After Axedale it gets slightly sandy which is mitigated by the addition of some small rocks. Not sandy enough to feel ‘stoppy’ but you might notice it requiring a little more effort. The forested sections were beautiful and peaceful, especially between Lake Eppalock and Heathcote where we started to see roos + what might’ve been a black wallaby. Roos also quite present _in_ Heathcote including visitors to the caravan park. The bridges on this trail are new and of excellent quality — so smooth! The same goes for the seating & picnic tables in scenic locations, though mysteriously not at the obvious stopping place at Lake Eppalock. Axedale Tavern is an excellent place to stop for lunch. All in all an excellent rail trail; highly recommended.

Signage is excellent, even through towns. New seats quite often. Even a tool kit.

Great place for families and friends to injoy.

Lovely walking ,running and biking track that runs through the heart of central Vic from heathcote to Bendigo. The remnants of a rail service long gone. Can be prone to flooding during big rains.

Beautiful weather and views. The water looks magnificent.
